I always liked Fedor's style; he threw bombs on the way in then immediately and seamlessly switched to kneeblocks and throws.
They typical BJJ stuff for closing is great because it is easy to learn and everyone can do it. I teach that to my students.
However the way Fedor or Anderson are defending punches and closing (especially Fedor since Anderson is more of a striker) is much more effective. However not everyone can do it because it requires much higher skill.
First thing is that in typical BJJ closing you block the punches but basically you always stay outside of the punching range and at a certain moment close the distance as quick as possible. Works but is a very long way to enter.
Fedor or Anderson are using their bodys (especially Anderson) to defend the punches and so they are far closer in distance and can work much better.
Also what you can see in the Fedor video they mix up clinching and striking effortlessness so their opponent have hard times of recognizing which attack is coming.
For myself I try to mix it up for my beginner students I always teach the Gracie stuff.
The Mat Pimp - I always liked Fedor's style; he threw bombs on the way in then immediately and seamlessly switched to kneeblocks and throws.I always tried to model my mma game similar to his. Not coming from a wrestling background, my doubles quit working against better opponents. He makes it look so easy though.

Fedor was a fucking master at throwing bombs and seamlessly getting into the clinch and executing a throw.

Glad you guys people like the thread and I thought all this stuff would be great for warm up drills for BJJ Practice even if your not Competing or training MMA.
Here is Chris Weidmans set up for closing the distance and if you follow his videos or type seminar you can see his full takedown seminars and some ground work.
