CM Punk-Gracie Breakdown=lacks movement

First let me apologize for posting another thread about this guy. I'm sick of all the crap on the UG too but I thought this could be constructive instead of just being filled with complaints.

If you watch this Gracie Breakdown, you can tell this guy has very little grappling experience. He does not move well on the ground. He is slow, can't shoulder walk and his hips don't move well.

Upper belts-what else do you notice about his movements that would suggest that he has/doesn't have grappling experience?

after listenning to him on a recent podcast, he's had numerous surgeries... Plus I'm sure I read a couple of years ago that he would just do privates with Rener when they got the chance on tour.. All will effect his game

He's garbage for sure. Phone Post 3.0

but Rener has "vouched" for his abilities and says he has not been promoted because he hasn't been consistant. He trains exclusively with Rener but only when his schedule permits (ie not often).

Looks like an average recreational blue belt at best. He's got balls, ill give him that

didn't they fix this problem with gracie online university? lol

So another brendan schaub grappler?. Hahaha gracie trololols Phone Post 3.0

I'm sorry, I really don't know anything about pro wresting, but hear this guy is a pro wrestler.

So... HOW is he gonna fight? Can he strike well? He is apparently a beginning level grappler form the looks of it, but does he have other skills?

Seriously, how can he fight  in the UFC --What's his gameplan? Maybe I am missing something obvious here, but I don't get this whole thing at all.

Some of these guys think that because they perform in a ring that moving to mma is just a "transition" and not a completely different animal than what they're doing.

He has rudimentary skills. He openly said in an interview bjj is his main strength. Wwf prowrestlers are on the road 300+ days a year. He only quit WWF earlier this year and this in theory has been the first legit extended length of time he has had to train consistently. I feel the Gracies are excellent instructors but with celebs they are more concerned with stroking ego's, being yes men, building networks and promoting their Gracie agenda/product. I believe he said in an interview that Rener wasnt aware he had signed with ufc. Props to him for going after a dream. he has a lot of work to do... ufc are idiots but whatever it brings more eyes to the product at least short term. Phone Post 3.0

He's also on record saying he's had like a dozen concussions and other serious injuries...

He's essentially just a guy with minimal training and wants to fight...except hes somewhat famous and he and the ufc are using that to their advantage Phone Post 3.0

I am a world kata champ. I think I'm ready to fight in the cage Phone Post 3.0

I dont see kutcher or bourdain fighting...but those would be interesting!

According to the book, choque, Helio's side used to train with a metal toolbox. Maybe they're are going to teach him how to fight the gracie way with a toolbox and then graduate him up to a folding chair. Then, in the ufc, when his opponent is distracted, renner will throw the chair over the cage to him and he will beat his opponent with it. This is in keeping with the street application of gracie jj and will keep the fans wanting more... Phone Post 3.0

I doubt very much that he will ever fight in the UFC, or anywhere else for that matter. As soon as he joins a real camp and gets cracked hard in the head a few times he will call it quits. And to save face he will have back to back "injuries" until the interest has faded and he can step away.

I see it as a publicity stunt from the UFC to bring in more pro wrestling fans. If they had zero interest in the UFC before they might start checking it out because their hero has signed with them.

You can't draw any other conclusions from that video than that he's a white belt. It didn't seem like free rolling. Who knows how many times they rehearsed those moves before they added them to the video. I can easily get my 5 yr old to pull off those moves if we rehearse them a few times.

IF he joins a real fight camp. If he thinks he has a great foundation (which he must if he signing with the UFC) then he may just keep doing what he's doing. He may add in some private thai boxing then hit the octagon. LOL

I wonder what weight he'll fight at? The intranets say is close to 220...so light heavy?
I cant imagine he can piss clean either...

LOL, I'm with you on everything that you wrote! Add some private boxing with Freddie Roach and he's UFC ready. And as soon as he gets punched in the nose he turns in to Fred Ettish.

Haha. Agreed.

Is there a big crossover between pro wrestling fans and UFC fans?

When ufc first started getting popular I alway though that would be the death knell of pro wrestling, assuming that once people were watching real fighting, fake fighting wouldn't have the same appeal.

Not so, I guess? Phone Post 3.0
