Combos: Linking Hands and Feet

When throwing a pumch-kick combination, is it recommended to kick with the leg opposite of the last punch u threw?

For example: 1-2 and then left kick or 2-3 then a right kick.

If so, pls list reasons why its better. Ive noticed several instructionals carry this out but they never explicitly mention to do it in this fashion. Also, I watch a lot of dutch MT and notice that they do this the majority of the time too.

Thanks

PS. To me it seems more natural to kick with the same side i last punched with cuz my momentum seems to follow through more.

Power, and alot of times the punch runs a guy in one direction so that he runs right into a kick which multiplys the power.

For pad work its very good to work because it teaches you to turn hips back and forth and to keep your balance "centered". Personally I like the 1-2 right kick, and that one finds its way into alot of peoples game, but against a guy with really good footwork and defense, he is looking for things from the right side after a cross.

But there are few kicks that are going to land as solid as a round kick after a jab or hook or the switch after a nice right hand. These combos are also easier to maintain good balance and body alignment as well.

Well, in my case it's 1-2 left kick since i'm left handed....

...Sorry for butting in, I just felt discriminated against.

stlnl2, thanks for ur insight. Ya, i guess that makes sense if u switch sides/directions of ur shots, u can maybe catch him off gaurd better.

one combo that i love is the one Manhoef used on Karaev to KO him. Right straight, Left Hook (that dropped him) and finishes it off with a right low kick. Simple and quick.
