Comprehensive book on throws?

Anyone know of a book that does a decent job showing as many judo throws as possible with their Japanese names? I'm not looking for a strategy guide or something about theory or anything. Basically just want a basic yet as comprehensive as possible book on the various throws and takedowns in judo. Phone Post

I was gonna mention couple I have..."Kodokan Judo Throwing Techniques" by Toshiro Daigo, but amazon is listing it used ~$125 and "Canon of Judo" By Mifune, used ~$190

Jeebus!

Even "Best Judo" is pricey if you want new.

Get Syd Hoare book....cheap, compact/handy.

Go to your local library I was surprised to find mine had a 500 page book on wrestling and another on judo Phone Post 3.0

This!

One of my weird "hobbies" is going to public & college libraries to read their old books on wrestling, judo, self-defense -- and martial arts in general. At larger libraries --especially univeristy ones-- they have all sorts of books going back to the 30, 40s, etc. --Some great books on wrestling. I noticed many of these books haven't been checked out  for decades. They're an incredible resource if you have the time. Amazing what you can find there for free.

The bigger & older the library, usually the better.

My local library has a copy of Bobby Douglas "Take it to the Mat, part 1", which is (IMHO) the best wrestling takedown book EVER.  It shows ten variations in each group ("Double Leg Finishes", "Arm Drag", etc).  And they put a marked grid on the background wall and on the floor, so you can see how much they've moved from one photo to the next.  It even has a young Dan Gable in some of the pics.

Also, I'm gonna give a shout out to Jigoro Kano's original "Kodokan Judo", because it is MASSIVE and awesome and also the first martial arts book I ever owned.

Check out Judo Unleashed by Neil ohlenkamp. It's great. Phone Post 3.0

I agree. I have this book and it is a good all around book on throws (various types, from leg/trips to hip throws, etc).

a trip to the library wouldn't be a bad idea as suggested earlier.

you might be pleasantly surprised at the judo books they have. you can check them out and decide after looking at them which one is the best to buy. Back when BJJ resources were harder to find and very expensive, $150-$300 for a videotape set, I used to give the library and a look and found some great material.

I will check out the library. Until then I ordered judo unleashed. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Phone Post
