Cowboy only making 155K?

payout ufc 214

Donald Cerrone: $155,000

that's very low, he has headlined and saved so many cards as a late replacement, stepping up all the time. He should be getting 500k.

When his contract is up he is going to bellator.

And what will bellator pay him? 200k, ppv points(lol) and he gets to fight twice a year?

he fights for money, its no secret

Is it really that low. Especially if he fights 3x per year ? With bonuses and sponsers hes probably close to a mill a year. Thats not bad for a job that is an enjoyable passion. To tell you the truth , i know lots say that people in pro sports deserve millions upon millions, but do they really? Whats wrong with 500k- to a mill per year doing an activity that you love? But i do firmly believe they should have health coverage for life from the organization. But thats another story.

I'm with you.

I'm always confused with what people think these fighters "should" make. They just pull numbers out of their ass. There is a market. There are actual metrics used to determine pay. It's like everyone thinks that every person that makes it to UFC/Bellator should be guaranteed to be a millionaire.

Yeah but Cowboy has stepped up and fought guys when he didn't need to.

When you look at 150k per fight, right off the bat you're going to commit 50k to taxes, 20-30 k to your training expenses and coaches. then you take out living expenses for the lead up to the fight. whats he really taking home?

Then factor in that their fighting years are the sum total of their ability to earn, meaning that a fighter can make money towards his retirement from ages 25-40...if he's only netting 100k/yr over 15 years, and he's able to save at best 40 percent of that, he's walking away with 700k? that isn't a lot of dough to retire on.

Meanwhile Dana is blowing 1 mil a night at the casino.

Thats some pretty bad accounting there.

Hes an independant contractor first of all so he doesnt pay taxes on any of his expenses. Secondly he's not anywhere close to netting 100k a year. At a minimum its 500k.

If he is reinvesting that money its growing exponentially. He will be more likely to retire with 5-10 million than 700,000 if he has any amount of financial sense.

Seems like right around what he should be making.

I'd love to "only" make 150,000 dollars.

500k for a 3 rd loss? You crazy lol

Cowboy has a lot of fans but the dude doesn't have that much pull cmon now

He doesn't pay taxes? Interesting, I'd like to see hear your reasoning on that one.

As far as netting, I mean after coaching/training, living expenses - I guess I should have said saving 100k.

Great if he is reinvesting that money, but as far as pro athletes go relative to what their league is making, UFC athletes are not getting as big a slice of the pie.

Ah I see you're arguing that he isn't paying taxes on expenses, while that's great, he's still paying expenses....and taxes This article didn't get too specific and had a lot of what ifs, but still pretty confident they're throwing down a decent part of each check on taxes, just like everyone else:

everything taken in acc, he always comes to fight, why does woodley get payed so much?

for three stinkers?

In a fight fans world I hear ya. Dude always shows up and tries to fight as much as possible bc he loves to fight.

Unfortunately the UFC pays their fighters based on popularity and ranking. Woodley is a snoozer but he still gets championship paygrade.

I wouldn't worry about Cowboy though dude has a training facility on the ranch which he owns. Plus he has kept some of his outside sponsors despite the reebok bs.

Brabatross - Seems like right around what he should be making.

sniff, sniff, do i smell an ufc shill?
