Crazy Karate event know as Chaos or something. Started by a Kyokushin offshoot known as Kenshikan. It attempts to bring back the old days of Kyokushin when the fighters had knowledge of the old school judo techniques, could hit in the face, and would frequently challenge other schools. The events have varying rules but all the rules are bareknuckle, allow face punching as well as grappling. Fighters come from not only from Kenshikan but other styles too. Previously they have had Burmese Boxers, practicioners of indian martial arts, BJJ stylists, and many other martial arts compete. I believe even one or two people from the mainstream MMA scene in Japan have competed. Some of the matches allow groin strikes and eye gouges. Really wish more of these hybrid styles such as Daido Juku, Kyokushin Budokai, and Seikendo were represented in the first UFC's. If they were more people might be going to Daido Juku dojos rather than BJJ schools.
the cheddarwurst has always been a big favorite of mine. care to share a few with your readers on this often overlooked delicacy GRIMFW ?
this thread is hungry!
OSU
That was pretty funny though GRIMFW
I ordered the book+dvd of the first event.
Its hard core stuff.
There was also some special rules fights where the fighters hands was NOT bandaged, eyepokes was expressedly allowed, but some silly looking goggles was worn.
btw. kenshinkan (the karate group arranging this even) is not a offshot from kyokushin, although they have used kyokushin kumite rules in their own competition. They are actually a offshot from shorinji kempo -which is very pacifistic zen Buddhist influenced style, actually registred as a religious sect in japan. It is one of two shorinji kempo offshots that has gone over to knockdown karate after being influenced by kyokushin -Byakuren is the other.
Gotta love the goggles?
They allow eye pokes...but you wear goggles...doesn't that sort of defeat the whole purpose of eye pokes?
^^yeah. but on the other hand, just because I wear a jockstrap when fighting, it does not mean I am ok with someone kicking me in the nuts.
I dont know why they decided to have those special rule fights allowing eyepokes using those googles. But I would not want to risk loosing my eyesight for a competition.

Actually Minoki Ichihara, who fought Royce Gracie in UFC2, is daido juku. He faced Royce in the first fight and lost on sub after a little over 5 minutes. Hardly that much of a dismerit, though, loosing to a peak career Royce -he is hardly alone to have done that.
Gerard Gordeau who faced Royce in the final of ufc1 is Kyokushin Budokai (he heads one of the two factions of the group) but at the time he was a member of oyama karate after leaving the main kyokushin organization in order to be able to fight as Pro.
Minoki was the lightest fighter and not the best Daidojuku fighter at the time. Just as Gordeau was not the best Kyokushin Budokai representative because his career was winding down. Not to mention he was very injured from his previous fights and he claims that Royce changed the bouts around so he would have to face him last. He also claims that the doctors told Royce about his injury and in the video Royce avoid Gerards good side. Bluming did challenge the Gracies to fight one of his students but the offer was turned down. In Brazil I have heard of Ademir De Costa fighting a lesser known BJJ guy in a challenge match and knocking him out but it is just a rumor. (Costa now has an mma team that does very well against the local BJJ schools in NHB. Assuerio claims his students are more skilled strikers than those at the Chute Boxe academy) However in the end it is the practicioner that matters however I do believe that a person practicing one of these Japanese MMA karate styles will most likely beat a PURE BJJ practicioner. However in todays MMA all bjj fighters now cross train. Interesting note about Shorinji Kempo is that it is Yuki Kondo's martial art base. Hotdog's rule.
Tell me more about those amazing looking googles....please

They are made of ruby quartz, and they keep the fighters' optic blasts in check. Due to severe head trauma they can no longer control their optic blasts. If not for the goggles the audiance would be blown apart. Of course they themselves are immune.
ttt for Scott and Alex Summers.
