Criticizers of GSP don’t appreciate the sport.

MotorBoater85 -  acid jazz, I would say if a fighter didn't like some aspects of MMA then that would seriously diminish what that fighter can accomplish in a fight.  That fighter will never be well rounded, because he will always favor the parts of MMA that he "likes".

Same goes for a fan.  If you only like one aspect of MMA, then how can you even say you are a fan of MMA??  You would only really be a fan of the one aspect you like, and cry like a baby when you don't get to see that one aspect.
Apply what you are saying to other sports. Does a football player have to like all aspects of football? No.

Should he study as much of the game as possible, yes, but that doesn't mean you have to enjoy all aspects of the game.
I agree with that analogy.  But wouldn't it also be true that someone who does love all aspects of the game they live for would be more knowledgable and skilled overall than someone who isn't?  If you love all aspects of something, that gives you much more determination in training and studying.

A guy who doesn't like defense in football might have trouble reading his opponents defense during a game, thus hurting his ability to make an impact.

I agree with you. The guy that really loves all aspects of a sport/discipline will most likely tap into most of his potential.

jellyman - I would call them low information fans. They only bring the knowledge Dana gives them Phone Post

You know, that's harsh. I could understand fans with knowledge beyond what you see on TV programming, but perhaps in specialized areas. They might value slams or whatever.

acid jazz -
MotorBoater85 - OP is correct.  I said it in an earlier thread, people who don't like all aspects of MMA are and always will be casual fans, as much as they desperately think they are not.

What difference does it make if one is a "casual" fan or a "hardcore" fan?

There are MMA fighters that don't like certain aspects of MMA. Are they a casual fan as well?

No. There's a difference. Fighters may not like certain aspects but they at least give it respect and understand what's going on.

For example, Royce Gracie may not like striking but he he will give props to good strikers and understands what a good jab can do for you.

Casual fans don't understand what's going on and therefore hate it.

acid jazz (having trouble with fucking quotes on this site),  based on that logic I would say someone who likes all aspects of MMA would find a greater percentage of the fights interesting, no matter what style is used, because of their overall greater knowledge of the sport.  Which is why I say some people who think they are real fans of the sport are just plain lying to themselves.

Jessethebandit - George St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck was a monumental event for the UFC with one of the best main events of the year.

Wat?

Did you see the pick and roll from Kidd and Dirk when they switched to Man to Man defense with 10 seconds left?

Tuf Noob - "Huh? WTF is that? I only saw Lebron slam dunk baby! True NBA fan right here!"

caliphornia - lol@ this bullshit. i find GSP boring as hell and it doesn't make me any less of a fan of mixed martial arts than the people who lick GSP's balls. it's called difference of opinion, fucktards. get outta here with that shit.

I will not disagree with you that you are a MMA fan. But how can you be a true fan if you don't appreciate what GSP does?

The original posters premise is weak and lazy. Generalizing that those who may criticize GSP simply as uneducated is absurd. I posted this on another thread over the weekend and it applies here.

What is annoying about the snobby "connoisseurs" of MMA who come out in droves when coming to the defense of the Fitches and GSPs of the sport is they feel they are the True fans and those who differ are simply barbarians.

One can love and appreciate boxing and far prefer PacMans style over PBF (and im a fan of PBFs style by the way).

I respect GSPs abilty. Its very difficult what he does and i cant fault the guy for fighting the way he feels is best for him, his career, and earnings. But, Im not overly excited and inspired by it.

Well it's fine that you don't get excited and inspired but at least you respect it. My post is out to the people that are out there trying to smear his name.

I love the analogy of Muhammad Ali. Ali used to do the same thing and completely dismantle guys and take them out of their game plan for 10 or 12 rounds and people call him the most technical and the greatest ever. Georges does the same thing for 5 rounds and people call him boring. I guarantee that almost all the fighters out there would love to be able to do what he does on a nightly basis.

Hoss - I love the analogy of Muhammad Ali. Ali used to do the same thing and completely dismantle guys and take them out of their game plan for 10 or 12 rounds and people call him the most technical and the greatest ever. Georges does the same thing for 5 rounds and people call him boring.

Not people... Actually 90% of the posts is by the same 5 guys.
Caliphornia, lionsoul, 2something2something, and a couple others I cannot remember right now.

I think most fans appreciate his skill set and give him props for being one of the best, but still criticize because they wish he would go for the kill when he has his opponent hurt.

For as boring as Machida can be, at least he jumps on his opponent when he senses they're hurt. I think most mma fans would love to see this from GSP, especially when he has a guy like koscheck fighting with wobbly legs and one good eye.

and I do respect the shit out of him and think he is THE best, but I do understand some of the constructive criticism aimed towards him and Jackson...
