George St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck was a monumental event for the UFC with one of the best main events of the year. But criticisms began to come as soon as the fights were over, and continued on forums in the days to come. The main argument is against GSP’s legacy, and claims that he is a “boring” and “safe” fighter. They aren’t giving George the credit that he deserves, and should be ashamed of themselves for it. A real fan of the sport wouldn’t disrespect George because they would see all of the things that make him the greatest of all time.
If you’re a true fan; George St. Pierre is a complete, technical, and dominant martial artist, who puts on exciting fights. But certain fans only want to see a stand up brawl. They don’t care if both dudes look like complete shit, as long as they are swinging fists. But that’s not what MMA is about. If you want all stand up wars go watch K-1, it’s really entertaining. Otherwise, do us a favour and stop making yourself look like a douche. Hardcore fans and people that train enjoy all the aspects of the fight.
St. Pierre put on an amazing fight against Josh Koscheck. Criticizers claimed that GSP had turned into a wrestler and would not be able to wrestle Koscheck and would get knocked out. GSP proved in this fight that he could use kickboxing for 5 rounds and still dominate a fight. Koscheck kept throwing looping punches, and GSP was able to keep outside of him by using the jab. He injured Kos’ eye in the first round and it continued to get worse throughout the fight.
People criticises GSP’s power but he was able to break Koscheck orbital bone. Other fighters such Jon Jones, Mirko Cro Cop, and Shogun, got praised when they broke the orbital of their opponent. The only difference is that Kos was just too stubborn to give up.
People also criticize him on his instinct to finish fights, but he was trying to finish Koscheck . If you know what you’re watching you would have seen that by the 4th and 5th rounds Kos wasn’t mounting any offense. He just kept circling away and back up. It is much harder to finish an opponent when he won’t attack you and is hardly even trying to counter any more.
Previously George has survived on his feet and did well against opponents such as Thiago Alves and Dan Hardy. Also he was predominantly a striker when he started out in the UFC. After his fight with Matt Serra people have criticized his chin, and his striking. But since then he has taken some strikes and never been effected. The thing about his style that has changed since then is that when he gets rocked or hit he immediately shoots for the double leg takedown. This is why he appears to be a “wrestler” sometimes, but he is really a mixed martial artist. How can you hate on him for using every aspect of the game?
GSP is one of this sports most amazing athletes. He trains all year around, in many different places, with some of the best coaches in the world. He’s constantly bringing in new guys and filling the holes in his game. He has proven countless times that he can fight for a full 5 rounds and not ever gas out. Throughout his career he has taken very little damage for the amount of wars he has fought in. He is still young, and fights smart so he will have a long career ahead of him. We haven’t even seen the best GSP yet and he is already dominating the division.
Haters are going to hate, but sooner or later they will have to accept the truth. GSP is one of the greatest of all time. He has skills in every area and is able to apply them seamlessly to a real fight.
He can grapple or strike with anyone, so his opponents better be completely rounded if they hope to even have a chance. He will continue to clean out the welterweight division for a long time and put on exiting fights.
If you disagree, you have some serious envy/jealousy issues.

I don't post much. What's your point KingOfFighters? are you trying to use my postcount as some sort of way to discredit me?
If so, I think that is pretty laughable. Come back and try again if you think of a argument against anything I've said.

This is the same guy that thought paulo thiago was a brit in another thread. Op is correct.
I agree. It's like saying you're a hardcore football fan but you only like to watch Tom Brady throw touchdowns. Defense and rushing the ball is boring.
Your MMA IQ is low as fuck, please educate yourself so that you can enjoy the finer details.
-GSP used a jab to beat somebody who has a really dangerous hook.
-GSP used a jab to keep enough distance to stop one of the best wrestlers. If he had combo'd like Thaigo Alves, he would have been taken down midway.
-Kos tried to takedown but he could not get close enough to GSP. He tried shooting from far away and GSP just sidestepped him.
-Kos tried to counter the jab with a overhand right but GSP was too fast and was throwing his jab with perfect form. Most MMA guys can't throw a jab AND at the same time protect their chin. This is why Joe Rogan said GSP was starting a new era of Jabs in MMA.
The above is what made the fight exciting besides...."Oh..he's just jabbing!"
I agree with entirety of jesse's post, expect I wouldn't say GsP detractors aren't fans, they can like any aspects of the game they choose, and if they find him boring then fine, as long as no one honestly questions his skill.

Exactly but they dont want to watch the best mixed martial artist they want people to "stand and wang". lmao thats all you fuckers give a shit about.
OP is correct. I said it in an earlier thread, people who don't like all aspects of MMA are and always will be casual fans, as much as they desperately think they are not.
Dude...Some people would just rather not watch a guy run around and jab jab jab jab jab all night. It doesn't mean we're not fans of the sport. I love all aspects of MMA, just hate when guys don't take any risk at all.

I would call them low information fans. They only bring the knowledge Dana gives them
MotorBoater85 - OP is correct. I said it in an earlier thread, people who don't like all aspects of MMA are and always will be casual fans, as much as they desperately think they are not. What difference does it make if one is a "casual" fan or a "hardcore" fan?
There are MMA fighters that don't like certain aspects of MMA. Are they a casual fan as well?
Lol at this guy having no argument except copying join dates. Very creative homie. I'll save you the trouble I'm 7/10.
acid jazz, I would say if a fighter didn't like some aspects of MMA then that would seriously diminish what that fighter can accomplish in a fight. That fighter will never be well rounded, because he will always favor the parts of MMA that he "likes".
Same goes for a fan. If you only like one aspect of MMA, then how can you even say you are a fan of MMA?? You would only really be a fan of the one aspect you like, and cry like a baby when you don't get to see that one aspect.
lol@ this bullshit. i find GSP boring as hell and it doesn't make me any less of a fan of mixed martial arts than the people who lick GSP's balls. it's called difference of opinion, fucktards. get outta here with that shit.

Does a football player have to like all aspects of football? No.

Should he study as much of the game as possible, yes, but that doesn't mean you have to enjoy all aspects of the game.

Even GSP himself was not satisified that he did not finish the fight. Guess he is a casual fan.
acid jazz -I agree with that analogy. But wouldn't it also be true that someone who does love all aspects of the game they live for would be more knowledgable and skilled overall than someone who isn't? If you love all aspects of something, that gives you much more determination in training and studying.MotorBoater85 - acid jazz, I would say if a fighter didn't like some aspects of MMA then that would seriously diminish what that fighter can accomplish in a fight. A guy who doesn't like defense in football might have trouble reading his opponents defense during a game, thus hurting his ability to make an impact.
