Jeff Curran fought the 53rd professional MMA fight tonight in California, losing a decision to undefeated prospect Pedro Munhoz on national television. It was probably the final fight of his career, which has lasted almost 16 years and featured bouts in the biggest events (UFC, WEC, Bellator, Strikeforce & Pride) against the best competition available (Yamamoto, Serra, Carvalho, Faber, Brown, Hioki & Benavidez).
Curran's 36-16-1 record is a testament to the way he handled his career. There were few managerial maneuvers to get the right matchups... instead, he fought the best that was available and refused to turn down a fight.
Curran and I met almost 16 years ago when he showed up and won an Extreme Challenge Trials amateur tournament in 1997. Soon after, he turned pro and I started managing his career. There weren't as many weight divisions or opportunities back then, so he fought at 155 pounds much of his career before settling at 125 for his last couple fights.
Through the years Curran and I have promoted shows together, managed fighters together and even partnered in a gym. It has been far from just a manager-fighter relationship. So, as one phase of the sport ended tonight, I'm confident his other areas of interest in MMA (training, managing and promoting) will receive more attention and reach the same level of success he had as a fighter.
I wish him the best, and I'm sure we will continue to see him do well in the sport.

Love watching him. I wish he would have just come forward in that fight. He backed up a lot but it seened clear he was faster and hit way harder. Im not a pro but I thought he could have really taken that fight.

The fight was a shit show, but not the fighters fault.
The cage was outside and the canvas was super slick from moisture. The fighters could not plant or move how,they would like. There were many slips and the canvas was fucked. They even tried to towel it dry between rounds lol.
