Today, on the debut podcast episode of “UFC Unfiltered with Jim Norton and Matt Serra,” White lauded Emelianenko’s toughness – while saying there was no way the referee was going to stop an Emelianenko fight in Russia.
“They were going to let him die before they stopped that fight, you know that?” White said. “But a testament to how tough and durable and mentally strong Fedor is, man. He was out. He was out. Literally, when he got back up … when a guy is on crazy legs the way that he was on crazy legs, and it’s not like he was on crazy legs and able to avoid punches after that. He continued to get hit with bombs by Maldonado and he made it through it.
“But I’ll tell you this: Those refs were willing to let him die before they stopped that fight, No. 1. And No. 2, Fedor’s got a chin and he’s a tough guy.”
White said the possibility of Emelianenko eventually getting a fight in the UFC still remains. At the very least, he knows there’s still an audience for the 37-year-old heavyweight.
“We’ve been negotiating for many, many, many years,” White said. “I’ll tell you this: Fight Pass did very well with that fight, so people do still want to watch Fedor.”
Fedor fought a guy who has a style of absorbing a lot of punishment, while utilizing solid boxing.
Fedor's gameplan? utilize mostly boxing, and absorb a lot of punishment.
Not the best gameplan. Fedor could've done waaay better had he thrown more kicks and gone for some takedowns.
That being said, if you told me beforehand Fedor was going to fight Maldonado via boxing mostly and trading blows.....I wouldn't be surprised the outcome was the way it was.
Was entertaining at least, but I feel it was too close to award one man the victory over the other.
The way Dana was talking about Fedor, it leads me to believe he will fight in the UFC. If he didn't want him in the UFC, he would just say he was smashed by a guy who couldn't cut it in the UFC. But he didn't.
I think fedor wants to see fedor destroyed in the UFC. I like fedor but that last fight didn't only prove that he's tough as fuck, it also proved he shouldn't fight at the top level anymore.
Uni man - I think fedor wants to see fedor destroyed in the UFC. I like fedor but that last fight didn't only prove that he's tough as fuck, it also proved he shouldn't fight at the top level anymore.
I don't thinf Fedor wants to see himself humiliated on the UFC, but I do wonder if he will take on any opponent or if he wants to be in the senior circuit.
You know, Brock, Mur, Hendo rematch, Anderson Silva.

Sometimes the UFC does this only to find out the opposite happens. Would love that result this time. A la Hunt and Hendo
