UFC President Dana White has zero doubt how a boxing match with Tito Ortiz wouldâve gone.
The[ rivalry between the promoter](Dana White explains how Tito Ortiz "destroyed what could have been an incredible relationship" with him and the Ferttita's | BJPenn.com
as/) and âThe Huntington Beach Bad Boyâ is the stuff of legend. While Dana White was first the manager of Tito Ortiz, he eventually fell into a role as the leader, and face of the UFC. Not long after that, the two began feuding, and wouldnât stop for two decades.
As the tale goes, things were so bad between the two sides, that they were in discussions for a 2007 boxing match. Sadly, the exhibition fight never wound up happening. Dana White appeared in a Spike TV documentary to promote the bout, training for it and even showing up to weigh-ins
However, according to Tito Ortiz, he never signed a deal to face Dana White to begin with. Regardless of how the fight negotiations went, the promoter is confident that he wouldâve defeated the former UFC champion if they did clash. Appearing on an edition of The Rush with Maxx Crosby, White discussed the failed booking.
There, Dana White stated that he wouldâve easily defeated Tito Ortiz if they had fought in a boxing match. However, the UFC President also added the qualifier that he obviously wouldâve been defeated by âThe Huntington Beach Bad Boyâ in the cage. White went as far as saying that Ortiz wouldâve killed him, had they fought in MMA.
Dana White reflects on failed attempt to book boxing match with Tito Ortiz
âIt was supposed to be a boxing match, and it ends badly for Tito Ortiz in a boxing match.â Dana White stated on the podcast when asked about his failed attempt at booking a fight with the former UFC champion. âIf it was MMA, it would be the first death in MMA. Tito Ortiz wouldâve killed me, I wouldâve gotten murdered. But Tito knows I wouldâve beaten him, and thatâs why he didnât show up.â
He continued, âIt was his idea, and it was a really bad idea. He knew it. Him and his wife at the time were trying to get out of the fight by trying to punk me. They wanted to use MMA gloves, they wanted to do all of this stuff, and I said yes to everything. Then he ended up pulling out, because he knew what was going to happen.â
âBut let me be very clear,â Dana White concluded, speaking about Tito Ortiz. âIf it was MMA, it wouldâve lasted three and a half seconds. I probably wouldâve gotten murdered.â
