you heard it hear first. Dana will be making a announcement within the next couple weeks with the lead up to UFC 100, or possibly at the EXPO.
that would be great but I doubt it. It wouldnt change just the UFC but as other promotions followed it would change my life.
This is just plain dumb. Guys will try to cut even more weight to make the next lower division because it's only 10# less.
Also guys will fight in 2 or more divisions and mess up the rankings or get belts in 2/3 divisions.
Don't like it. I think they need more weight divisions but not this many.
Hope it doesn't happen. There would be too many champions, and with that too many fighters fighting in multiple weight classes.
This would result in champions in one weight class constantly fighting champions from other weight classes in "superfights", that would diminish the credibility of the loser (see: BJ Penn), and could leave us with a lot of vacated titles.
Only heavyweight needs to be split up. 206-265 lbs. is too big a range. Throw in a cruiserweight division to bridge the gap.
I'm skeptical.
They are only adding 3 weight classes not like the 40 or so with boxing. I dont think it will be watered down at all. I also think Dana is smart enough to limit allowing guys jumping wight classes too much. I think this is the perfect amount of classes and a smart move by the UFC.

Someone correct my if I'm wrong, but aren't MMA weightclasses in Nevada set by the NSAC, not the UFC?

That's never stopped the haters from blaming the UFC before.
NO MORE WEIGHTCLASSES!
He would add 145 for sure

I figured it was going to be mindblowing like the last time. Like Snickers decided to advetise
Best news ever! I for one am VERY excited about this.

There aren't even enough HW fighters to go around with the broad weight range.
IMO, they should just implement 195 and 165.
as a fighter I like this...
On one of his vlogs he said he couldn't announce it yet because he was negoiating... something along the lines of "deals take time to get done." If UFC was going to go ahead and expand the weight classes, I'd think they'd just go ahead and do it and not have to "negotiate" with anyone.
The worries that it will water down weight classes will be unfounded. THe UFC has a huge roster of fighters, and will be able to fill out the extra weight classes without problem. It also allows pretty much every PPV card to have at least one title fight. After the first couple fights nobody will be complaining and will love the fact of more 5 rounders and multiple title fights per card. Huge ups to the UFC.
basically if I was going to fight a tougher fight I would take on a guy at a lower weight, if I was going to fight a less skilled opponent I could fight a little bigger guy... I think a lot of fighters would benefit from this, being able to compete with different guys at different weights...
Thats my opinion as a fighter... Did you see the pre fight interview with Franklin and Silva? They touched on this subject...
I like it. Honestly, it gives promoters, fighters and fans a lot of more options. It makes things very exciting.
I'm a fan of this.
