David Mamet has a project with Sony Pictures Classics called REDBELT, which is being tauted as an American samurai flick set in an underworld filled to the brim with cage-fighters, bouncers, cops and special forces operatives.
The flick stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Whedon geeks know him from the space show, Cuaron geeks know him from CHILDREN OF MEN and tranny geeks know him from KINKY BOOTS) as a Jiu-Jitsu badass who runs a self-defense studio. Somehow movie stars and fight promoters fuck him over and he has to kick some ass to regain his honor.
Kind of a weird movie for David Mamet to take on, he has penned such movies as Glengary Glen ross, The Untouchables(film), Hannibal, Spartan, Postman Always Rings Twice, Hoffa and Ronin.
