Sprawl'n'Stall - "I could go on.... the point is, WE ARE seeing well rounded fighters. So well rounded that they are free to use their BASE SYSTEM."
Agreed. Well-rounded doesn't mean being the best at everything! Of course guys like GSP were poster boys for being more complete at everything. He did have some of the best wrestling though so even for him it still holds true.
Yes.
I also look at like this:
"Jack of all trades and a master of none" - that is still a bad ass fighter.
"Jack of all trades and a master of 1". - THAT is a bad as fighter.
JBASS - I don't think so, conner isn't really even that good a striker. He's a bit like a left handed, mini Hendo but without all the skills, tools and tricks that Hendo has. Look at guys like Stipe, RDA and Rumble; all are weapons on their feet but 'grappler by trade'. And vice versa with guys like Pettis and Machida who have great ground games but are elite strikers.
Well rounded fighters aren't disappearing at all.
And what stand up skills would they be for Hendo? Other than ducking and spamming the overhand right?
You must be trolling.
You've answered it yourself, there's an extra skill right there. Conner doesn't duck anything at all and just throws his left
You mean other than when he performed a legitimate boxing duck under one of Alvarez's looping hooks?
Conor actually displays high level boxing footwork and head movement
you must be trolling to even claim Hendo has more stand up skills than Conor. Hendo was outsmarted by old man Vitor.
Dom,gsp, frankie off the top of my head are some of the best all around talents in ufc. You don't have to be well rounded to be a champ like you have stated, why would you when you can ko like Conor, rumble etc. They obviously have a bunch of tools, but sometimes you only need 1 to showcase to be dominate fighter.

Read again kid, not once did I say he has better stand up skills. I said he has more skills, tools and tricks. I know you are only new to the sport but there's something called the ground game.
Chadderz - Idk. The current p4p champion Mighty Mouse is the most well rounded fighter we've ever seen.
I might be wrong here since i don't watch a shitload of MM fights but he doesn't come across as a huge BJJ guy. does he have subs from his back? I see alot of amazing striking and wrestling and clinch work all at extremely high levels but i'm not sure i've ever seen him be dangerous off his back or anything.
BJTT_AJM - Stuffing all those takedowns. People don't like to think he's well rounded but he is.
His take down defense was great theres no denying. I'm saying his striking is on such another level that even as good as his TDD is hes still lopsided skill wise in striking.
Just like khabib who ironically is one of the only guys I think poses a serious threat to Conor. His striking is actually really good. but his fucking grappling is so unbelievably next level that even his good striking is lopsided in comparison, same with DC.
Khabib's striking isn't even good. It's atrocious. Khabib has just as much work to put in (if not more), than Conor did after his fight with Mendes.

Please tell me if im wrong here
BJJ is more than just submissions off of your back though. Mighty mouse has a solid number of submission wins, he also rarely gets taken down, always gets back up, and doesn't get submitted.

Bjj covers anything that is not a pinning side control tbh.
Well he doesn't have to be well rounded when he never had to fight good wrestlers. Short camp Mendes was winning until he gassed. If Conor beats Khabib I will never doubt him below 170.
elcornjr - No you're not wrong but this game seems to do circles. My guess is at some point a really good well rounded fighter will come along and dominate, then everyone will be trying to get well rounded.
This. It's the evolution. And what an exciting one.
Imagine one day a new fighter with Conor's boxing, wonderboy' kicks and Khaviv's wrestling with Maia's will appear.
