Defeating Cain Velasquez

Fedor's punching power came at the expense of his grappling. That fish-out-of-water Fedor who was mounted for 4 minutes by Bigfoot would get carved up and caved in by Cain.

I can't see Cain being the underdog to anyone right now. He doesn't take a punch well, but he seems to recover very quickly, which is almost as good as having a good chin.

I could see him getting beat in a ring, but in a cage, he's just going to Couture waltz dudes into the cage and pepper then, then take them down when the slowdance is broken up.

A prime Chuck/Mirko would be the type of guy to beat him, but I'm not seeing that guy anywhere on the horizon.

"Werdum is awesome but he won't beat him. Cain will punch his guts out standing."

What makes you think Cain will outstrike Werdum? I don't know which of them is the better striker - but I think we'll find out. I don't think Cain will want to go to the ground with Werdum and I don't think Werdum will be able to get Cain to the ground.

Why would Werdum try to clinch with Cain?

Do we really have to go threw this again? Just like The last guy you said could beat Cain, he's retired Phone Post 3.0

It seems Cain is peaking, he could be champ for a long while.

Yeah....that's what it looks like to me - but I've been wrong before. In particular I thought Arlovski was going to be champ for a long while. So far nobody has been able to defend the UFC HW belt more than twice in a row and if Cain beats Werdum he'll have the record. Cain is deservedly the favorite but just as you had to be nuts to write off Werdum against Fedor you have to be nuts to write off Werdum vs Cain IMO.

watch cain vs jds 1

cain didnt use fence pressure to take away his power

he was ko'd

gotta be able to stay off the fence at the least...

^ JDS was busy trying to avoid getting taken down - he did very well at that but got beat up for his troubles. Werdum is a completely different fighter and he will not be worried about getting taken down. I'm not saying Werdum will beat Cain but watching either guy against a striker (Cain vs JDS or Werdum vs Overeem, for example) doesn't necessarily give a good indication of how this fight will go IMO.

Why would Werdum pull guard against a wrestler? I assume he'll want to strike with Cain (and take him down if he can - but that's probably not going to happen).

Edit: I assume you're not basing this on the Overeem fight? Obviously Overeem is a much better striker than Cain and Werdum needed to get Overeem to the ground.

That's right. You don't want us to get all rational on your ass and point out how Fedor's game declined over the years.

Cain would just drop for constant takedowns against Overeem..Overeem would gas out in the 1st round..it would probably be a very frustrating fight to watch..

a guy like nogueira stands a chance of a submission but that chance is quite small..

i think a prime Crocop could have given Cain problems..

its going to take a strong, fast striker that can avoid the takedown...Gonzaga doesnt stand much of a chance against Cain..

Who are you talking to? LAE just pointed out that Fedor tapped Lindland therefore Fedor did not lose to Lindland.

Jds stayed on defense the whole time. Someone needs to dbl leg him and put pressure on him. Same with Jon jones don't let him pick u apart attack his ass. Cain and jbj are unbeatable when their in control. That's why weidmans champ. He didn't let andy set up just kept attacking. Just my opinion. I sell game plans for 10 easy payments of $399.00 if anyone needs them lol Phone Post

Ah you're right, my bad. Thought he was using Lindland as a "Fedor can beat great wrestlers!" kinda thing. Misread OP.

My apologies sir.
