Derrick Lewis vs. Ciryl Gane

I especially like how Dana hyped up Lewis before the fight as “the guy that beat Francis Ngannou” as if it was some thorough ass whooping. If you have time go back and watch that fight.

Same body. Beep

They calling Gane boring yet Lewis and Nganou had the most boring fight in history like watching paint dry.

Karma in the form of Gane showed up to them both for fucking the fans that night. Nobody wanted to see that fight again!

After all that talk.

Yes, with Gane the problem I see is he is much more athletic than 99% of the other hvwts… most ufc heavies are slow and plodding and are mostly punchers with little kicking game. They don’t have the speed or technique to threaten Gane

Ngannou is huge, explosive and hits like a truck but I think even he I think will be chasing Gane and missing and gassing hard … Gane is several levels above Francis in terms of striking ability …

Some are saying Stipe poses a problem for Gane— I don’t think he does at all at this point in his career … he’s simply too slow and plodding …

The hvwt division is interesting until Gane/Ngannou is over… aside from a rematch who else can you get excited about?

What?!? You mean in terms of dominance? If so then yes I agree

Same here but I think what folks are complaining about is that Gane is in his own world in terms of skill at hvwt. He is very skilled and athletic and great to see but who else is there right now on his division that presents a great challenge? Ngannou obviously does to a point due to his explosiveness and power but who else? Stipe doesn’t … maybe Jones if he looks good at his new weight…?

That’s what promoters do, though. If he didn’t say those type of things the UFC may not be where it’s at today.

Gane looked really good

Yeah… in terms of complete athleticism, Gane will run circles around Francis. Ngannou is obviously more powerful and explosive but that’s all.

If Stipe fought smarter and didn’t love a fire fight, I’d like his chances more. The problem is closing the distance to get into a range where he’s most comfortable would be very difficult to accomplish. It goes without saying that Francis can always land one. Aside from that I’d say Gane vs Jones depending on how Jon looks at HW, like you said. Jon is athletic of course but has never displayed any sort of footwork, he’s very stationary. Watching Gane fight, I do believe he’d have the speed advantage on Jon, especially with him moving up. I could see Gane leg kicking Jones until he can’t move and then picking him apart. However, Jones does have a much deeper array of strikes in his arsenal that virtually anyone else Gane would ever face.

Jon’s fight IQ is his biggest asset. He will have a few inches of reach on Gane but I don’t expect him to be able to control the range. His wrestling will always be there. He will need to blend it all together in a near perfect performance to beat Gane, but aside from Francis I think he has the best shot.

I wanted Lewis to win i like the guy. he seemed off in the walk in to me. so much pressure

gane is serious business. hope he does beat francis

still think Lewis is at home in the ufc. hopefully he doesn’t pack it in

Gane is super athletic for a HW but also has fight IQ rare for the big guys too …and technique.

Jones’ wrestling deterioration is his biggest weakness now IMO. Im his early fights he was taking down top notch wrestlers off his first attempt. Not sure what’s happenened since .

Gane is so technical it’s crazy to think he picked up MMA so late. He moves almost like Barboza at times

I’m a pretty limber dude and that shit puts insane pressure on your knee to finish. People are going to fuck themselves up like everyone yanking on their legs getting into rubber guard have.

I remember that other thread of yours where we discussed the decline in his wrestling. I don’t remember if I said this back then, but I have somewhat of a theory. Last year when Jon first started his long journey to HW he said that he has been dealing with a lot of knee pain, and that he has now been strengthening his legs a lot. I could be wrong but I theorize he will start wrestling a bit more when he isn’t dealing with that pain anymore.
