DFW:"Machida Wanted 'Anderson Silva' Money"

Other things of note in this thread:

1. People all of a sudden showing up to shit on Machida's accomplishments. If he's such a scrub why is the UFC offering him a title eliminator?

"I'm a fan of both Machida and Anderson but come on, you have to actually accomplish something first."

2. People inventing out of thin air that Machida made a solid unshakeable commitment to the fight and then changed his mind as a negotiating tactic. You have no idea if it was a firm yes, a tentative yes, "I think so but let me sleep on it", whatever.

Yeah, this is over Dana White's feelings rather then money. Also Dana is out of the Tito Ortiz business and Cro Cop will never fight in the UFC again.

"I said, 'Are you [expletive] kidding me? I'll tell you what. You tell Machida he achieves what [expletive] Anderson Silva has achieved, then maybe he'll make Anderson Silva money. Have a nice day.'"

Whoah! Zing with the nice day!! Raked over the coals by phone to phone aggression!!!

Just throw on a sideways cap and hang a plastic gold chane around your neck already bro. And a side order of tats.

Fuckin', fuckin' FUCK and fuck.

The Sultan -  The UFC loves putting people in the positon of taking short notice fights or fighting against teammates, but they won't pay up?

I wonder what the actual numbers are.  For instance, how much more money did the Machida camp want than what they are currently making.  If he asked for double his normal purse, than I can understand Dana's take on it.  If he wanted like a 10% increase or something like that, then perhaps its a little out of bounds.

It's hard to comment because we don't know the numbers, but The Sultan's post is a very good reply to the situation...

Anderson Last Fight:

Anderson Silva: $200,000 (includes no win bonus) def. Vitor Belfort: $275,000 @ UFC 126

Lyoto Last Fight:

Lyoto Machida: ($200,000 to show, $129,000 Knockout of the Night bonus) @ UFC 129

I'm assuming Anderson must make a boat load locker room payouts which even so, that means Anderson doesn't make that much more than Machida....  So I'm lead to believe that it was a 10% increase or maybe 30% at most, but if you're going to ask a fighter to take a huge talent on in such short notice, you should PAY the fighter!!!!  It's silly that UFC fighters get paid 10% of what Boxers are making...  But to make them fight cheap on short notice is an insult.

On another note, its also not professional to bad mouth people who make your company great.  I am a fan of Machida and I know a lot of others out there do enjoy his fights and like him as a fighter.  The KO of Couture was amazing and that was his last fight.  It's a great reason that you should increase his pay.  Your as good as your last fight and Machida is on fire....

Brian Rule - This is fucking stupid. Lyoto would never say that. This is just Dana putting words into his mouth and the simple MMA media running with it.

Do you know Lyoto personally? How would you know that he would NEVER say anything like that? Are you his friend? Are you his lover? His cousin? His nephew? His brother? Father? Sister? Or, are you just some random dude that is assuming that Lyoto would NEVER say certain things without knowing him personally?
This stupidity.

"I'm assuming Anderson must make a boat load locker room payouts which even so, that means Anderson doesn't make that much more than Machida...."

He gets a PPV cut though too I think.

But it's hard to know if that's part of either side's calculations...

Machida's fucking ducking Hashad!

- the UG Phone Post

Totally expected this... Dana always trash talking anyone who doesn't do exactly what he wants, what's new.

So instead of paying "Anderson Silva" money they decided to take the cheap way out with Tito...? Didn't Tito make $450,000 for his fight with Bader before his bonus!? Phone Post

Exactly, this goes back to the point that Dana was more upset that Machida asked for more money after the "yes" was already given.

Plus if we're talking about accomplishments, why do so many other fighters get paid more than Anderson...

I don't think Machida and Soares did themselves any favors with this shit.

Oh well he should have taken the fight like he agreed to originally.

lol as if tito was any cheaper than anderson... rematch evans - machida wouldve been 10x more competitive and exciting than evans - ortiz

Tito puts asses in seats and pay per view buys on TVs, especially in this situation with the emotional win over Bader. America loves a come back story, and if/when Tito pulls the win off of Rashad, the Ortiz/Jones PPV is gonna get a TON of buys.

Yeah Machida wanted too much money, so we'll pay Tito 450,000 to step in. Phone Post

I believe that Dana in the past said that the top guys in the UFC like GSP Lidell Anderson are in the 2-3 millions dollars range per fight.

My guess is Machida wasn't really interested in the fight because he is in no shape to fight and 3 weeks is not enough to get ready, So he just went for a ridiculous amount of money for kicks.

The whole "Anderson money" statement is just funny, what's the big deal?

And LOL at peoples saying Machida could accomplish what Anderson did ...

superCalo - Macihida always did seem to have a kind of superiority complex, like he thinks he is better than anyone else, won't let them touch or punch him, and moves away from them as if they stink, so not suprised to hear about this.

Lol. Why people vote you down is beyond me

On topic:I see his managers talking like this, not Machida though

Brian Rule - This is fucking stupid. Lyoto would never say that. This is just Dana putting words into his mouth and the simple MMA media running with it.

It was probably his management speaking for Lyoto. A lot of time in these negotiations, Dana and the fighters don't even speak, it is all through managers and Agents.

And honestly, how the fuck do you know what Lyoto would and wouldnt say in a business meeting?
