DIaz can now buy a new car

Anybody, and I mean anybody that bags on Nick Diaz should just shut up. Damn cholos.

150k is a great payday in the sport. I knew guys that just a few years ago made between 10k-20k headlining UFC PPV's. One was a champion as well.

Relative to history it sounds good but its nothing compared to the sacrifices, risks, and eyes on the screen that these guys bring.

Watch the Golf Channel for a few minutes and you'll see a bunch of fags that grew up in country clubs that get paid $150k for getting 20th in one event. They will do one every weekend for half the year. And golf as a popular sport has been on the decline for two decades.

Do you think the PGA pays out those checks? NOOOOO it's the sponsers of the event and the club hosting it. Why do you think if you want to play a round of golf on a PGA course it's gonna cost you at least $300 for 18 holes. And that's if the course is a cheaper one. I know guys that have spent $1000 on a round of golf.

Please sign me up to make $150+k.
if memory serves me right the top UFC champions make 250-400 per fight. Coker said postfight Nick was their most popular fighter and got the fighter of the year award. If nick is comparing his salary to those in the UFC it would make him bitch about pay.. (insert he could have signed with UFC comment) now 150k is not a small paycheck but if his peers are making 50-75% more than that, i can see him bitching about getting paid.

I really can't...
If he was one of the fighters blackballed from the UFC then I'd have sympathy.

If you actively choose to sign for a small company because they offer things the larger higher paying company won't, then you don't then immediately turn around and complain.

Dana White has been quoted on camera a few times saying he'd like to have Diaz back.

The whole thing is just weird.

sunderground - Neither Strikeforce nor the UFC covers any of a fighters costs other than what they are paid.

Other fighters have said the flights, housing and a per diem are covered for a few of their cornermen

LOL, too much specutaltion on "what if's "here.

sunderground -
Let's run the numbers. Its not a much money for a champion or a top 10 fighter.

$150k gross pay.

Subtract the following:

Cesar's cut - $45k
Costs for corner (travel, meals, etc) - $2k
Taxes (CA, Fed, SSI) - $30k

Net income from Strikeforce Title defence = $70,000

The guy fights about three times a year. He has to cover all travel costs, healthcare, retirement contributions (which he should be maxing rather than being taxed). He may be making alot to some on this but to me, he's not making much at all for being as good as he is and being the headliner on a Showtime broadcast.

And before you start saying "he makes money from endorsements!", go try to buy a Nick Diaz T-shirt or tell me one signficant sponsor he has that would pay him more than $10k a year.

So according to u he might make roughly about 150 to 220 k a year after deductions and thats bad?...lol...

More than half the card made $3K or less. If only a few fighters made that little on a UFC card, this place would go nuts.

Nick can now upgrade from a Civic EX to an Si model.

well seeing how the UFC charges 50 bucks a show, thats your answer

Strikeforce pays more than the UFC compared to how much they make

I love Nick Diaz fights but this guy needs to stop bitching about money like he is broke, it is a total slap in the face to people who bust their ass 40 hours a week for peanuts. Plus please stop with the Mayhem doesnt deserve to fight you, he is a great fighter that was a buzzer away from beating your partner Jake(saved by the clock). Mayhem is tougher than anyone you have fought in Strikeforce or Elite!!

Yeah, but you don't see a PGA golfer talking trash about not making enough money...

I highly doubt Cesar Gracie gets 45k for one fight. Get real.

Yes. He does.

Prove it.

sunderground -
The golf comparison is for perspective genius. MMA is the fastest growing sport worldwide while golf and other mainstream sports are losing viewers and participants. Some no name in golf makes 10x what the Showtime headliner makes. My point is that $150k for that wasnt great money.

Some of us prefer honesty and no bullshit over MTV and reality TV. "He's lucky mma sponsors will let him get away with his ridiculous behavior".... now that is the dumbest thing on the thread.

You're either 19 or an idiot. Why does a sponsor pay an athlete? To endorse their product. Why did Tiger make so much money? Because he was clean as a whistle in the publics eyes. He was the perfect face for buck, TAG, ect..ect.. Companies don't want a sex addict, thug, or other scourge of society as THE FACE OF THEIR COMPANY. That's what somebody is endorsing a product is for that moment, the face of a company.

Tell me what company would want Diaz to represent them? Then look at the public images of guys like GSP or Randy? John Q. Public can get behind someone like GSP. Even if Diaz beat GSP, Anderson, Belfort, and Shogun (in that order) ESPN wouldn't have him make a commercial. Because they want nothing to do with him.

dennis rodman never got and commercials either :(
