He took a gamble and made his money so it worked out. Good for him, respect to anyone that bets on themselves
And I want to see Francis vs Cejudo in RIZIN. Neither fight should happen though.
I don’t get why some of you guys as fans would side with the UFC/Dana over Francis/other fighters.
I know the UFC is a business, so can understand their decisions are motivated by their responsibility to maximise profits for their shareholders, but as a fan you are getting a worse product because of this. This is why you are getting fight night cards with no names every week. This is why, in the rare event that the UFC wants to stack a card (UFC 300), they can’t do it in the same way they could in the past.
If fighters are paid and treated better (a fairer share of revenue), it’s going to attract better athletic talent in the future, improving the level of MMA we watch.
Then, just on a human level these guys are at the top level of their field, putting their health on the line, in a sport watched by millions around the world, that has it roots in martial arts (something that’s existed in all countries in some form or another since the dawn of time). Do they not deserve to be well compensated? At least in line with other popular sports?
Not true, as a fan I feel the UFC model works more to my personal consumption of the product. I have to wait years for the boxing match ups I want and constant alphabet belts beinf relinquished because the champ doesn’t want to fight a mandatory challenger.
I personally don’t care what another adult makes. This fascination with a rich athlete lifestyle isn’t something that I am interested in. Are some of the cards shit and filler match ups? Yes. Do I feel the top fighters should make more? Yes. Do I care if they do? No, because more often than not the match ups I want to see fet made except for Fedor in the UFC.
What is fair outside of an arbitrary word without the ability to be measured monetarily based on what a fighter brings to the table? How many fighters can push a ppv card over 500k nowadays?
If we want fair the fighters should have a clawback clause in their contract and all Financials should be audited just like an account mananger or sales executive contract. I doubt many would want that but it would put things more on line to show their true value.
Whatever happens for Ngannou, top UFC fighters know there is great money to be made elsewhere. That’s what Francis changed. Even BKC pays well.
And unless Ngannou keeps losing in MMA and boxing, PFL will attract eyeballs and fighters too.
It doesn’t hurt my feelings. I just find it absurd that a bunch of fat losers who don’t train can sit behind a screen and mock a fighter who loses. It risks nothing, it contributes nothing and it takes nothing. Greatness and achievement comes through hard work and risking boldly. I think anyone who participates in criticism of Frances should contemplate this fact. I also think we’d get better fights if fans treated risk with a higher regard than winning.
You really underestimate men’s ego. 2 days ago, Francis was still seen as THE current #1 badass, a serious boxing contender and of course a former UFC champ. Now he’s seen as too green for top boxing bouts, he has bee KOed his first time, etc. If he loses also in his coming MMA bout, his stock will plummet hard. You can bet his ego is hurt bad. Worse than the KO physically hurt him.
Men do not seek validation and attention like women, but they want RESPECT and status even more. In sports, business, politics, etc. the examples are endless.
Not men who get to perform in front of 60,000 people. There’s unquestionably an addictive quality to having an entire arena or stadium full of people on their feet, screaming and cheering and chanting while you performing at the highest level. This is why fighters and other athletes hang on longer than they ought to, not because they need the money. I think those accolades bring with them a high that’s better than drugs. It’s a high most of us will never experience, but I suspect we all wish we could.
So he went broke post being in the UFC?
Sports during covid shows that money > fans.
No player wished to not have a crowd but long as they were getting paid they were more than willing to show up.
Usman loaned him $200K
That does not mean he went broke though but lets say he did. Makes even more sense he chased 30mil in boxing if he went broke after the UFC.
Your income cant overcome you being stupid but 30mil vs what the ufc paid seems like a clear choice to make
Conor was carried by Floyd, and you also left out Francis having an even better performance than Conor just before this fight. But I see your point on the name and draw.
Because I care about seeing the best fights, not what other men make for a living. It’s far better if the ufc has all the best fighters.
lol risks what? I’ve had multiple pro fights as a fucking hobby I did for fun. That line makes me think you’re the one who is fat and doesn’t train.
Not me. Maybe I’m different. No one I’m friends with in real life has any idea how much money I make. Just bought a beach house, I told no one and told my wife to do the same. In my experience you just get hated and sued when you swing a big dick around.
I believe Francis was carried by fury and Francis wasn’t aware and over performed.
The UFC doesn’t care about putting on the best fights, their deal with ESPN isn’t contingent on it. Obviously they try to put on the best ones they can within their current policy, which is “we’re having an event on this day and its going to have a title fight with two guys depending on who’s available”. E.g. everyone agrees DDP earned a title shot with his win over Whittaker. UFC - “Oh you can’t fight next month, ok Strickland is in”
UFC couldnt afford him
