Did it really look fake?

orcus - It looked fake to me, I can't imagine Ken with 30 years of grappling experience doesn't know how to apply an RNC to an opponent who is doing literally nothing to defend.

this

Sounds like it was fake Phone Post 3.0

CountMarkula - Was not faked. If they were to fake it, I'd assume they would want Kimbo to look good, which he didn't. They both just looked old and out of shape cardio wise. I thought Kimbo was going to tap, but you could tell it was only tight for a short time until Ken gassed and couldn't hold it anymore. Kimbo gets up and blasts him and that's all she wrote. Its about betting lines and making money not making Kimbo look good. Phone Post 3.0

Joe Rogan on today's Fight Companion:

"That fight looked fake as f@ck."

Even as a yellow belt in pancration I can say finishing that choke was first day shit. I'm not a conspiracy guy but that seemed way too fishy. Glad I didn't bet on Shammy in that one. Phone Post 3.0

Its suspicious but it is more plausible that they are just very poor mma fighters. I watch low level amateur events sometimes and this is the kind of stuff you see happen.

No it's not really plausible because 1 of them was Ken Shamrock... He's been doin this like 25 years!!! I mean he's subbed Bas Rutten by rnc. It's just not plausible at all. He also didn't gas it had been about 1 min and he never threw a punch or even struggled for the sloppy takedown. Ken has become almost Bob Sappish but he sells it better. Phone Post 3.0

Yea i have choked out guys way bigger than me in a matter of seconds with rear naked choke. They're my go to Phone Post 3.0

Firstly, Ken's knees were shot around 2000, and already then he was old. Notice how he does not shoot for a takedown, he slumps over and jogs towards his opponent's legs. I was surprised to see Kimbo topple over with the second takedown attempt, maybe he got overconfident as he saw the old man moving in slow-motion.

As for the choke, that should have been the end of the fight. It was deep, hardly defended. Who knows why Shamrock couldn't pull it off but he couldn't make it work. I think the answer lies in the fact he is 51.

Ken looked awful 10 years ago, what could happen between 41 and 51 really?

You may wonder why Kimbo looked dodgy during the fight, looking like something out of UFC 1, but this is what he does. He shows up for fights and that's it. He has been out for 5 years, do you honestly believe the promos? Do you think he sees a long-term great career in MMA? Does he leave his family to drive to training at different gyms all day? Really?

This was what we all knew it was: a 51-year old fighting a streetfighter with a name. These guys are not better than this, sorry. It may look worked when they suck.

What constitutes a "fake fight"? They weren't winking at each other and shit and giving each other bro hugs, so it wasn't that kind of fake. Looked like Kimbo's punch took a wee chunk out of Shammy... probably that wasn't fake.

But someone will have to explain to me how a guy who has been submission grappling for a living can't choke out a complete novice on the ground. Especially when the choke was 100% sunk in.

So I don't know whether Ken had it in his mind to hand Kimbo a victory or not. It seems asinine to all but the most paranoid. But at the same time, when someone has a track record of WTF shit during their fights, what is a person supposed to conclude? He's done weird, questionable shit like this before, the Rich Franklin "dive" being the most well known. At what point do you stand back and judge a person by the big picture?

Getting back to the original question, what does it mean to be in a fake fight? Has Bob Sapp ever been in a fake fight?

Bob Sapp--the answer, of course, is yes. I don't think we should bury our heads in the sand and pretend that there are no fake fights happening ever. It happens. Probably a lot more than we would like.
