From what Ive noticed on sites some brands tend to have significant variation in the appearance of their blue, purple and brown belts, with white and black being pretty consistent.
Mainly the difference seems to be more pale muted color on the purple vs very bright and very light tan vs dark chocolate for the brown.
However Im not sure this is accurate or more an issue with lighting on the photos.
Can anyone from experience tell me which brand's belts are darker vs more understated?
Atama belts are light (especially the blue belts...almost...periwinkle).
Gameness belts are much darker.
Ahem.
I think what Helwig means to say is:
LOOK EVERYONE! I GOT A PURPLE BELT!!!
(Congrats again, Helwig)
Steve, you know shit.
Which company makes a purple belt that isnt flaming dark purple?
Atama's is the darkest purple possible.
I just pulled out my old purple (which was a beautiful shade), but alas, i trained the brand label off.
I recomend wearing the belt out in the time honored way: Wear the gi to the mall atany and all opportunities.
Don't like the dark purple? I think Koral's are a decent color.
twinkletoesCT - Atama belts are light (especially the blue belts...almost...periwinkle).I've been called a periwinkle belt many times... sux

Vulkan's purple belt is a nice light purple color.
koral are my favorite ones.
i guess vulkans would be similar if not the same as koral
what about Triangle belts. Might be lighter. I agree!! I HATE blue and purples that are deep, rich colors. Look like TMA belts.
take what your instructor gave you and wear it with pride...now in the case of the dark purple belt...wearing it with pride takes on a whole new meaning!!
Thanks for the replies.
it's in the way you tie it.
Ive never heard of "triangle" belts?
two of our students recently got kagi belts for their purple belt. They look about four years old after six months . . . if that's what you are asking . . . ;)
Atamas are my fav belts..i like the hues of their blue, purple and browns.

Thats what I would assume too if I heard someone asking what I am. Truth be told, Im not really a gi guy and certainly not concerned with my gi street cred. The belt just like is giving off its own light its so bright purple.
Im not usually someone overly concerned with asthetics, I just in general prefer a more understated subtle look to things.
Hey Prince rocked purple for years and he got more smoking hot pussy than the entire OG combined.
I'm partially colorblind and had a real hard time distinguishing blue from purple. I went with an atama blue belt mostly because it was the only color I KNEW was blue.
