They’re desperate for live content because that’s the only thing left that they can bank on people tuning in for and being forced through ads to watch.

The UFC gets the pay rate from ESPN as a 500k ppv so they don’t care of its crap and does 87k. They already got paid!
The ESPN deal is up for renegotiation soon. Hopefully they recognise that the product has been dogshit and lowball the ufc unless things change

I think they’re already doing this. It’s probably why they’re finally starting to get out of the Apex - about three years after they should have. And why they stacked 298-300 and have some good cards coming up like Whittaker vs. Chimaev on free TV. They’re trying to look stronger for negotiations.
