Does this win over Royce Gracie automatically qualify Hughes for BJJ BB?
i think you guys are mistaken. this does not qualify Hughes for a black belt, IMO.
are you kidding?
Coach Mack Brown, what fight did you watch LOL?
it wasn't in a gi, and it wasn't even BJJ, it was MMA. Matt used solid technique, but i don't think that an mma victory qualifies you for a BJJ BB.
Bareback for sho.
Ridiculous thread.
eviladam REVERSE TROLLED!!
lol at reverse trolled. He needs a black belt in something
Yes he deserves a Blackberry. Fighters need to read the internet while they take a shit.
Alot of people were saying that Matt used pure BJJ (therefore a victory for BJJ) to defeat Royce... so therefore yes, Matt deserves a field promotion IMO.
If you watch the fight again, you will see that Matt is tapping out. He is clearly tapping Royce in the head, as to say "I quit". BJM mistaking this for G&P, stopped the fight, and awarded it to hughes. Only if Royce would have let go a'la Jason Delucia..........
I think some people are confused, so let me clear this up. Matt Hughes doesn't do BJJ. He used pure BJJ to win his fight with Royce. The end.
Well Silva was given a blackbelt and has showed way less BJJ in his fights than Hughes showed has showed in his.
Vitor Belfort mysteriously jumped from purple to black upon his debut in the UFC (Ricksons words)
But you don't think Hughes deserves a belt ?
He basically broke Gracie's arm with a submission before switching to punches, and 4 out of his last 5 wins before that have been via submission...

many people questined silvas bb when arona beat him.
did these same people questi0n royces?
I can't stand Hughes, but he's obviously very close to bb level. The way he was cranking on Royce's arm (regardless of the kimura being a "muscle" submission and Royce being an old man) shows that his jj is up there.
If any wrestler deserves a bjj bb it's him, he's actually using more techniques than rncs and guillotines to win fights. And once again I hate Hughes and can't wait for GSP or Penn to fuck him up, so you know I'm not biased.
nope, he had his angles all wrong when he was going for the sub.
A BJJ black belt is about a number of things, like instructing ability, technical knowledge.....
WITH A GI ON.
But yet Liborio gave Arona the BB on the podium of ADCC?????????????????
But isn't MMA closer to the original idea of Gracie Jiu Jitsu than the current sports jiujitsu mentality you need to get a blackbelt.
On the BJJ forum here, someone related a story of a Gracie cruise from a couple of years ago that Helio was on. At a technique session, someone asked Helio how he liked to setup the armbar when someone was protecting their arms.
Helio's answer (through a translator):
"Punch him in the face"
You guys are so fucking stupid.
So if a kickboxer goes and beats a Karate guy, then is he an automatic Karate Black belt?
So Royce, by way of his wins, has a Kung Fu BB, a karate BB, a Judo BB etc.
He also must be a national wrestling champ or whatever, because he beat those wrestlers.
LOL, what a joke. You are a BJJ BB when you study BJJ under a BJJ instructor, and EARN it. By the way, BJJ is with a GI. Yes you can practice without one, but without a gi, there is no belt, so how can you wear a BB?
if Wanderlei gets his BB because he had a loose triangle on Yoshida then i dont see why Hughes doesnt get one.
