Does the UFC...

..give fight camps a heads up when they're planning on going to a smaller cage?

Figured it could really be a factor and one fighters would like to prepare for. Phone Post 3.0

Good question, i am sure they must say something. In boxing a bigger or smaller ring is a big deal. Guys like Machida who move a lot would probably hate a small cage.

Mitrione said it's the first question he asks when he's offered a fight as he doesn't like the smaller cage. Phone Post 3.0

Why do they jump from one size to another? Why not keep it standardized? Phone Post 3.0

It seems like fans know the night of...it's why I got curious. Hope it's not the same for fighters. Phone Post 3.0

Fight Nights seem to be in small places sometimes

No clue? Testing ways to make things more exciting, I guess.

I'm for standardization as well.. Phone Post 3.0

I think it's purely down to the size of the venue.

The regular cage is 30ft. Smaller cage is 25ft. Why not just have a 27.5ft cage all the time?

But this is a new thing, no? Haven't they always had issues with differing venue sizes? Seems like the cage alteration is new, but I could be wrong. Phone Post 3.0

The smaller cage isn't new. But it always seems to pop-up when you least expect it. So they usually don't use the smaller cage, but when it happens you're like "Whoa!"

Anyway, I don't know that I, as a fan, care if they switch it up every now and then. I'm not convinced the smaller cage makes for more action as it also increases the odds of wall 'n stall as much as it increases the odds of striking. Maybe I'm wrong.
