The RDA fight would be good. They are both passed their primes but it was the title fight we were supposed to see back then. RDA is also a southpaw and a good leg kicker but a Connor would/should have the boxing edge so that would be interesting.
As for the Dustin fight, yes, Dustin found the range and timing on a better moving and kicking Connor only a minute into the fight. Other than Khabib, when did Connor lose a first round? And this was I believe a 10-8 on 2 judges’s cards.
I just looked him up. Right after thew fight he said “looks like a lower leg/ankle injury” (meaning either or, he wasn’t sure.) and posted a picture where you cannot tell based on the angle.
We now know that it’s his leg, and he went into surgery to fix it.
Not that it matters really.
It wasn’t a fluke either. Conor isn’t a muay thai guy. He never really practiced much regarding leg kicks. As a matter of fact he used to mock it. Said muay thai guys were robotic and predictable.
Ya think Conor used that Proper 12 money and his natural genius to collaborate with the touch-butt-in-the-park movement guru and learn how to break his own ankle? How much did he just bank? How much will #4 pay out? If he can win #4… damn that sets up #5. Cha-ching.
First off, while I suspected that was a possibility, I wouldn’t trust anything coming out of the camp 100% either. Second, if that was the case, it’s entirely plausible that it was further aggravated by kicking so hard and hitting the knee on Dustin. That’s the diff bet calf kicks and leg kicks - there is little chance of hurting your leg when kicking below the knee.
Definitely best case scenario for the UFC given how he was getting handled by Poirier. This sets up for an additional fight with Poirier and the PPV buys will be huge given what happened last night. Far greater than if Conor lost and had to create some new drama for a new opponent.
I didn’t know one could become an orthopedic surgeon with a GED. Only way to explain how many orthopedic surgeons on this Forum claiming to have expertise in this matter.
Also, is moving straight back so the kick goes long and just taking the top of the foot slap that is more likely to be injurious to the kicker a legit “check”?
