See image posted by Animal_Mother. That is what I was refering to. Call it a check or not, that is where something went wrong with the leg.
Edit: Saw where you say not a check. Plenty of references in commentary etc. as it being a check. Maybe not the cleanest, but that is where the leg becomes compromised.
I know some people (Poirier in particular) are saying the kick was checked but from the picture it seems pretty clear the kick was not checked.
The picture does look pretty suspicious and I don’t necessarily disagree that something went wrong there. There are a few breakdowns of the actual bone breaks (it looks like the fibula broke first and then the tibia broke when Conor put his foot down). Have any experts (doctor, etc) weighted in on the claim that the leg became compromised when Conor kicked Dustin?
Not sure where to pull the video, but Cormier was talking about this post fight last night as they broke down the fight. What he was saying was a little hard to follow. Seemed to be suggesting the flex of the foot hitting the leg caused the injury as opposed to direct contact of Conor’s shin to Dustin’s leg. He was suggesting it was a separation at the joint of the ankle. This was obviously minutes after the fight and without a lot of time to review still images etc. Like I say, it was an odd analysis but the best analysis at the time. However, it seems clear it was a fracture and not a joint issue. Not sure how landing with the foot could result in the fracture higher up, but that appears to be what happened.
Sloppy reckless full force kicks can lead to injuries. I was unable to kick for a couple months from going overly hard in a heated sparring session and that was with shin guards. Conor played himself. God damn was it fun listening to his bullshit excuses after the fight. Fuck that dirtbag.
And Cormier was wrong, it wasn’t a separation of the ankle from spraining his foot on Poirier’s thigh, it was a compound fracture of Conor’s shin bones.
Maybe the other doctors here with X-Ray vision can help Cormier out next time, his X-Ray specs must be broken.
You didn’t know? All of these people are doctors with X-Ray vision that popped off at the mouth last night trying to sell the bullshit that Conor’s freak injury was the product of a “checked” kick.
I was on mushrooms so all I really saw was Conor getting aggressive with wild kicks and then getting his fucking ass beat. Buncha faggots making excuses for another loss.
Other than Burns vs Wonderboy it was fun. I used the women’s fight as a chance to get back in the pool for a bit. Everything else was awesome. Great fights. I wish Conor’s body had hung in there a little longer so he could’ve been proper banged out. But it is what it is. Lots of fun and easy to follow along because I didn’t start going hard with the shrooms until after the event was over.
Excellent work by Dustin. He did even better this time than last time.
He was working Conor in stand up and then started working him on the ground. But what mattered the most is how active the first round was. Conor was drained by the end of it. It was only going to get worse for him. And he knew it as evident by him resorting to cheating again.
Muay Thai is not Conor’s thing. He throws good front kicks and flashy kicks as setups but the gritty shin-on-shin stuff is not for him. He was kicking Dustin but the moment Dustin returned he did not like it.
Dustin has timing on Conor now too.
The last two fights and rewatching the first fight makes me think that the first fight would’ve gone differently if Dustin had known that Conor is beatable. He bought into the hype and then got punched behind the ear.
Conor needs to forget Dustin and maybe fight Nate or RDA. Or just retire. Against Nate though, he’ll need kicks and considering what just happened I doubt he’ll want to kick.
Whether you’re a fan of Conor or not, Jesus Christ what horrible fucking luck. Not that Dustin isn’t checking/parrying/blocking properly but still, a lot of things have to align for a break to happen like that. Dustin has always had underrated defensive technique and man they really studied the tape on Conor.
