Edmond says Shahbazyan ready for Adesanya

Listened to Edmond on Ariel's MMA show today. Ariel asked if Shahbazyan could be ready for a title shot by the end of next year and Edmond said if they got offered Adesanya in March that Shahbazyan would be ready. 4-0 in the UFC, 3 finishes. The kid wants to beat Jones record as the youngest UFC champ ever and he has Edmond and Ronda as his managers so he might get a title shot soon enough to beat the Jones record. Jones was 23 years and 8 months old when he won the title. Shahbazyan just turned 22 this month so he has 1 year and 8 months to try to beat the Jones record.

The UFC is full of records. Youngest champ in UFC history is a big one IMO.

I'm rooting for the kid to pull it off.

Man that kid comes out of the gate fast as many have noticed but here are the numbers...

5/11 wins in under one minute

10/11 wins in the first round.

Well, if Edmonds says so...

Adesanya is too big of a jump. Give Shahbazyan a top-10 guy next and then a title eliminator match after that.

Shahbaz by KO

Another hype train, huh

I'm sure that is the plan.

Ariel asked if we could see him get a title shot this time next year or was that too soon and Edmond said "if they say we need to fight Adesanya in March, he is ready to go" just implying the kid is at the elite level now.

He just turned 22 so  he has 20 months to try to beat the Jones record. Interesting sidenote: Edmond said in another interview that he was hopeful at one point that Shabhazyan would make the Olympic boxing team but injury was an issue. He could also not wrestle his junior year due to injury and missed much of his senior year to injury as well. Another interesting sidenote his WW older brother got a DWCS fight too but lost via TKO in August.

Well, if Edmonds says so...

Edmond said he had a future champ coming up before the kid made his UFC debut, he went 4-0 with 3 finishes in his first year in the UFC despite being 21. Beat a tough up and coming guy in Darren Stewart (who just beat Deron Winn) and beat a couple tough vets too.

Its stupid to rush a talent like this. The upside is very little and the downside is huge.

Just looked at his record. Wow.

All first round finishes (besides Stewart, which went to split) and most under a minute. All ko's except one sub.

I'm keeping an eye on this guy.

Hoo boy.

Someone might need to have a chat with Chocula.

Spencer Lazara with mmainterviews.tv interviewed the kid when he was like 11 or 12 years old here.

Edmen said here his dream was to be in the UFC and be a champion. Pretty cool a kid made a dream like that come true (the first part of the dream) against all odds.

I'm surprised he was asked what weight he would be at when he was a pro fighter and he said middleweight, mystic Edmen.

Let him fight Till, Cannonier, Whittaker, then if he is still in the win column let him fight Israel.

Spencers a good guy.

Edmen will be the future champ & who knows he might be ready for a title shot. Everyone peaks at different times. There is no variable to judge it off.

I hope Edmen does Armenians proud and wins the title. We where hoping Gegard would do that but it’s ok guys still a legend

He might be ready he might be not. If hes ready waiting a few additional fights just loses some money and fame. If hes not ready his career could be ruined.

An 11-0 twenty two year old is not losing anything (ie: “money and fame”) by not getting a title shot.

The only thing on the line here is that Jon Jones record of youngest champ ever. If Edmen were to lose to say Romero/Costa/Till on the road to the title that would just mean he has to win four or five more fights for a title shot instead of two.

His career is also not ruined if he loses a title fight at 22 or 23.

GSP, BJ Penn, Miesha Tate, Ngannou and others lost their first title fights without their careers being ruined.

I'd like to see him against Till or Brunson.

Rather they bring him up slow, but if they're gonna feed him to the wolves that's the route I'd go.

The question is, how is head movement?

He'll never be ready for Izzy with that coach

I think he's going to become undefeated Champion. Because it's destiny for his coach to be on top again through him.
