Evan Tanner's words of advice to me...

FRAT warning, but I just thought I'd share my only encounter with Evan...

And by the way, I made this a pro thread because I could care less about KKMs.

Anyway, I had met Evan previous to his bout against Yushin at a gym he had been visiting, and he was one of the coolest guys ever. He had gone around and shook everyones hand who was there acknowledging his presence. Let me add that on this particular day, I was in an extremely bad mood. Some personal problems had occured, and in addition to other things, that day was just not good for me at all.

I guess Evan has noticed this, because after we all seperated across the gym, he came over by me and asked how I was. I told him that I was alright, but he persisted for me to basically vent off to him. He just knew that something was bothering me. I'm not going to go into detail on what I was going through, but I will share the words that Evan spoke to me. He said...

"Everyone goes through hard times, some worse then others. If your not satisfied with your life, you need to go and change it. You have to do what you want, and not what others tell you. If there is no wind, there will be no wave. You must go and do something, in order for another thing to unfold. Never sit back, and expect things to fall into place. Sure, some things might. But other things wont. You have as much power as anyone else in this world does, and you can make a difference. Reach for your dreams, otherwise you might be stuck wondering what might have been."

And I responded with "That makes alot of sense Evan, thank you..." and he put a smile on his face and said "Hang in there man, the sky is the limit." and he got up and walked over to a buddy of his.

I had only just met this guy, and he had helped me like I was a dear friend of his. The advice he gave to me, is still a vivid memory in my mind. It seems like it was just yesterday.

It's really sad to see someone like Evan pass away.

But his voice has been heard by many, and his legacy will live on.

WAR TANNER... Rest in Peace...

6th paragraph. i have a good memory with things like this,

plus i told this story hundreds of times to family members, friends, and etc.

im one of those guys who can recite song lyrics and movie scenes with ease.

seems like a really cool guy, i commend people that can break away from the norm and follow their own path.

Awesome.

Fantastic phrase and a kind and to some degree (because he's gone) note of the type of person he was.

I think I'm going to take Evan's words and put them as my email signature and on my Myspace page if you don't mind
