20% management and 10% to the gym? 30% for a gym and a manager, Damn bro, thanks for the insite, seems like thats wayyyy too high.

Doesn't ATT charge a flat 5% for everything?

Someone else will have to answer if they cover gym and management fee for 5%, I don't know.

That would be one of the cases of "you get what you pay for." If your management is just answering the phone and taking care of paperwork, I'm sure you could get away with having someone for next to nothing. My management brings a value that outweighs a 20% payday.

Keep in mind, the example are the entry UFC pay. If the example was 6 digits guaranteed, the expenses would be configured differently.

Can't they deduct all fighting related expenses from their taxes with a schedule b? I know they get hustled with fees and Uncle Sam but every little bit helps.

Do all fighters use only managers in the fight game? Anybody try for a non traditional management team? Instead of all competing for the same sponsors it could yield different results.

Thanks for the site.

Just a suggestion, can they change the background color of the site to something else other than black? I have to highlight everything just to see the letters.

Yes. There is a lot of information on this topic to share, so I figured I'd get into this in a future blog.

Being educated with your taxe or having someone that is, is very important as well. I mentioned the 30%, because that is the rough estimate before deductions. I personally put this % to the side so I have the funds to pay my taxes in one lump sum. Then with anything left over is used for investments.

Myles, do you think it is doable if you remove managers for a fighter? Will it make a fighter life better or harder?

GSP brought this up before and said that you just need a lawyer to go thru the papers for each transaction you do instead of having a constant manager that get 20% of your purse.

What do you mean with traditional managers vs non-traditional? I assume you mean do all fighters use an MMA management agency?!

No. I personally wouldn't work with a big agency, because the benefits and time devoted to each client is a lot less.

There's a few great managers out there that maximize their clients full potential in every area, which is the way to go. Let me know if I misunderstood your question.

He said his management brings more value than the 20% he pays, and I assume that means doing many things including serving as an agent/securing sponsors.  Say a fighter makes $100K in a year, and gives $20K to their management, yet their management brings in $50K in sponsors for the year, it was well worth the 20%.

I agree with GSP on this because all you need is a Sports lawyer to go through each deal/opportunity you get and pay them a flat fee each time you use them, because I would never use a manager and give them 20% of my hard earned money

It depends with what you want out of your career and business model. If you only want a broker for your contracts and negotiations, yes, you could do this without a management team.

If you want a fully invested manager that brings a lot to the table to maximize your career, your management would be very important and your most valuable player.

There's a lot of shitty managers in this buisness, so it varies with who the manager is and what they offer. I have heard a lot of horror stories. My management has worked out for the best in my career without a doubt.

A "good" management team is well worth it and you'd lose out on a lot by going this direction. You'd only save going this direction by comparing to horrible management.

^^^ I meant you'd lose out on a lot by going the direction of just a sports lawyer.

Exactly, but there's still a lot more value with a good management team than just sponsors.
