F shamrock was the the original body movement guy

Remember when everyone made fun of him for his yoga ball exercises? FYI. Rich franklin did it too. Phone Post 3.0

"I see stiffness in his yoga balls", Phone Post 3.0

vu for trying to spurn MMA talk, but Rickson was WAYYYY before him.

He is the first man who made it move Phone Post 3.0

I remember both (Frank Shamrock and Rickson) being very heavy into body mechanics, yoga and sh*t.

Despite the oddly rapey situation in that gif, seeing the video of him working the swissball back in the day really changed my idea of what could be done with functional movement and focused repetition.
Maybe this seems pretty stupid to people today, but his openness to multifaceted training really affected me.

Back when I was insane and moved my bed into the living room to turn my bedroom into matspace I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on that swiss ball. Passing, turning, rolling out, trying not to put holes in the wall or break a window.

Its easy now to dismiss how wide of a net he cast when it came to the work. He paved the way for so many yet doesnt get the credit he deserves. Phone Post 3.0

Rickson came before him.

But boxers, wrestlers, catch wrestlers, and martial artists since the beginning of martial arts were really the first movement guys.

Rickson was first.
There's still no one like Rickson.
He did movement and breathing work on a level all to himself. Phone Post 3.0

Honestly yes.
Pushing 50 (pulling 40!) and i havent trained in 5 years, so i often wonder if I even have a right to comment anymore....

But since you asked, yes. We spent so much time working on specific movements, so much time drilling... that I became out of balance, and i saw it in others. The ball, and just as important a large space, allowed me to really find my physical center, exposed weakness both large and small. Its kind of hard to explain, I dont possess the vocabulary...

I know Frank didnt "discover" core muscle balance, but he was the first guy that I ever heard say it.
Even just doing what he does in that above gif is hard as fuck for most regular joes. Being able to move around an entire room on the ball without ever putting a hand down was a personal challenge that 100% improved my ground game. And my abs were as abby as they had ever been. Phone Post 3.0

Rickson was also the first, in MMA, to study the movement of animals. Its really fascinating stuff, especially coming from him. Phone Post 3.0

ThinkMMA - Rickson IMO. Phone Post 3.0
