It's likely to be the fight that headlines the first ever WEC pay-per-view, and even though former champion Urijah Faber is only days removed from his latest win, he's already breaking down his next opponent, featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
Watching a DVD of all of Aldo's 18 fights, Faber believes that he can find a weakness in the game of a fighter who has looked nearly unbeatable in all of his fights in the WEC. The "California Kid" is confident he'll have the kryptonite to Aldo's Superman.
"It's going to be a close fight, but the advantage point for me is first off the speed neutralizing him, and second having an advantage in the grappling, and understanding what his weapons are," Faber explained when appearing on MMAWeekly Radio last week. "His knees and kicks are going to be one thing, and his hands, but being aware of it is going to make it easier for me."
"I would say mid-May would probably be ideal for me," Faber commented. "Mid-May, maybe late April, that's kind of close, but I feel great. I don't really take time off. I'm ready to fight.."
How is late April "kind of close"? It's mid January right now. Even late April would leave 3 months minimum for a training camp. Most guys are running 8 week camps from what I've seen.
Even though Brown has come and been the good company man by stating the Faber/Aldo fight "makes sense", I think he may be getting slightly shafted here. With that much time between fights, Mike would be looking at August/September before even getting a shot at a title -- one that by that time may in fact be held by a guy he's beaten twice recently.
sifucharles - i am going on record as the first to say it. Faber gets his belt back in grand style. once he finds his groove. he will make Alod look like a rookie!
"i would have a very difficult time paying even $10 for a wec ppv event...they would have to bring in kid yamamoto or someone else to spice things up.."
So bringing in a guy who's been stinking up the joint for the last year or two would get you to pay, but not the guys who have been consistently delivering awesome fights on show after show?
