Ive trained at Renzo's NYC and Shaolin's a few times.
Most of my training at AMA Fight Club in NJ.
How was Renzo’s??
It was awesome to see. Only got to go 4 times but took a taught by Danaher before he was famous. Did a session with the pro team when the IFL was hot. Always tons of people on the mat. The Blue Basement was iconic for east coast BJJ.
I was a little surprised in that I thought I and the guys I went with would be absolutely dismantled and we held our own. Gym was a little "cliquey" but nobody was rude or unwelcoming.
This is back in 2008 or so, a lot could be different.
I trained at sitoydong with mark and his team. That place was amazing
I've taken from Mark and Yodtong Senanan there in Sommerville, and they taught a seminar at my gym. Yodtong is probably the most impressive guy I ever met in combat sports. He's like a holy man. I don't know any other way to put it.
It was a great experience. I went after I fought Peter Barrett . I was in town on a vacation and wanted to get some work in so Peter told me to come in and train . Great gym / fighters
What well known or famous gyms have you trained at before?
My father lived in Las Vegas for about 5 years after retiring. When I would go out there and visit him, I would sometimes stop in at a new gym. I went to Xtreme Couture, Wanderlei gym, and Sergio Penha gym in the past. Had great experiences at all of them.
Let’s hear it.
Jim
Should have gone to J Sect, a John Lewis brown belt smoked Sergio Penha
BHJJC sounds insane in that youd have all different guys from all different cross training right before huge fights all over the world. Sounds like somehow egos were kept in check.
Hey Beer Man - I used to go to one of the first powerhouse gyms BHJJC. You worked out with or where taught by Fabiano Iha (UFC), Darrell Gholar (UFC, National Champion Greco), King of the Street Marco Ruas (UFC), The Pedro Rizzo (UFC, Pride), Mark Kerr (UFC, PRIDE), Bas Rutten (EVRYWHERE), Genki Sudo, The Gracie Hunter Kazushi Sakuraba and I'm sure I'm forgetting several.
I saw everyone of these guys on the mats. It was amazing.
I remember stopping in there a few times back in the late 90s.
