Sports figures are pseudo warriors. People idolized men who put their bodies on the line for their nations many years ago and now we are focused more on "civilized" sports to fill that slot.

THis is why MMA is best and perceived as "something more" when you focus on and have people representing their countries like the Olympics. It connects with something very primal in us...
