Fight Network to broadcast "Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: Bushido"

Toronto-based cable channel Fight Network has inked a deal to broadcast in its entirety the upcoming "international rules" MMA event known as "Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: Bushido."

The deal bolsters an online pay-per-view broadcast of the event in conjunction with Ustream.tv.

"This event is a throwback to some of the glory days of mixed martial arts in Japan," stated Chad Midgley, vice president of programming and production at Fight Network. "While Fight Network does not in any way endorse the use of an alternative set of rules, "CCF 6: Bushido" should provide some quality entertainment for our Canadian fans."

"Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: Bushido" is set for July 23 at Sangudo Arena in Sangudo, Alberta, Canada.

A heavyweight bout pitting ex-UFC and PRIDE veteran Gilbert Yvel against former two-division King of the Cage champion Tony Lopez headlines the show. Also featured on the card are notables such as Antonio McKee, Shane Nelson, Ross Ebanez and Fabio Nascimento. McKee meets CCF champion Jorge Brito in a lightweight title match.

Colosseo Championship Fighting 6 will be sanctioned by the International Combative Sports Association, a commission not affiliated with the widely recognized Association of Boxing Commissions, which endorses the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts.

The "international rules" include a 10-minute opening round, which is followed by a five-minute second round. Championship fights add a third five-minute round. Soccer kicks, stomps and knees to the head of a downed opponent are allowed, though elbows to the head are not.
