"I would have liked to see Jon Fitch stick around." Florian told MMAmania.com. "I hate seeing any fighter get cut to be honest, that's just obviously the fighter in me -- my heart goes out to him. It's got to be very difficult. The other side I do understand is that it's a business and you do have to put on exciting fights and not a lot of people are willing to pay 50 dollars -- 50, 60 dollars for a guy who is boring them or whatever."
"Jon Fitch in my opinion was one of the best fighters in the UFC, he was extremely consistent, had a phenomenal record against excellent competition and was a top-ranked guy. But of course it's the UFC's decision, they can do whatever they want and Jon Fitch did lose his last fight pretty convincingly to Demian Maia, and you know, they have that right, they have that right as they do with everybody and everybody who is fighting for them."
"They need to get rid of some people so they're going to get rid of the guys who aren't going to be the most exciting," the three-time UFC title challenger said. "They want people who are going to tune into the pay-per-view, watch the fights, they'll want guys to follow certain fighters and they're going to get rid of the guys who are boring -- and as a business guy I understand that."
in_different - The UFC is in the business of entertainment. they have promised nothing else. As long as they give us the match ups we want to see, i wont complain
This. The Fitch cut was out of line I thought but u wasn't to be entertained in fights like everyone.
They needed to make cuts anyway so get rid of the dead weight, no disrespect of course.
nhl nba mlb are all entertainment too. lots of boring games, players, teams.... but they are the absolute best players.... that is why it is exciting. i can watch kids playing pickup games out on any yard, and its very exciting... so what
Hope Jon Fitch all the success in the world outside of the UFC. That being said, I agree with the UFC cutting him. Dude was just boring to watch for a guy like me that actually pays for almost every PPV. Dana needs to get rid of the nut huggers and bring back yellow cards!
If you're going to be boring, at least be the champion. He's had numerous chances whether it be in a title bout with GSP or other fights leading back into being the number one conternder. He failed everytime. It's time to move on. he was good but not good enough.
Also pissing off the boss a while back over something so petty as video game rights didn't help his cause to be kept in. If you don't toe the company line, don't be surprised the company no longer wants to sell your product.
If it's boring, change the rules, don't cut the guy that abides by them. In basketball, they brought in the shot clock to speed things up. They didn't get rid of all the guys dribbling around and wasting time.

I'd agree with you, and I do think changing the rule would help the sport evolve tremendously in this area, but the UFC doesn't have that power. That power belongs with the AC's and we all know how slow they are to make any changes, let alone significant changes. I mean, we're talking about a group that was so lazy that instead of making a system scoring system they basically borrowed boxing's poor scoring system and gave it a half-ass overhaul for MMA.
So ultimately, rule changes and judging standards would go a long way towards improving the sport and encouraging fighters to fight for the finish more, but the UFC doesn't have that power and may even be limited in how much they're allowed to lobby for changes. So doing what they're doing is about the most effective thing they could do in the short term.
i think if it was me i would try to keep a relationship with management. they dont seem like bad guys and they just want to make money. i think there is so much going on in the background that fans dont know. dana is real and he sat there for 35 mins after 157 in the scrum video and spoke freely and answered every question about everything. u know what kinda of shock wave hit the game when bellator didnt want fitch? too much talent out there.......
Really they don't want boring fighters......now tell me how the fuck is Guida still on the ROSTER THEN you Ben Stiller looking mother fucker......j/k Florion I'm a fan of you.
I feel like more people talk about Guida than Fitch though. No disrespect to Fitch. But Guida has been in some really fun fights. the Benson and Diego fights were so fun to watch. but i do think he needs to step it up again. if he loses his next fight, he's got to be on the radar

i agree, guida can be exciting but it's not until hes getting his ass kicked that the animal comes out. other than that i detest watching him fight and won't complain if he gets cut in the event he loses his next fight.

People take the guida hate out of proportion. He has had some epic fights. He actually has a solid fan base, I saw him live and people love him. Until guidance loses, he is going to be fighting safe, but I envision a day where he takes on a role similar to Diego Sanchez, giving us exciting matchups and being in good fights again
"He ain't wrong" because he doesn't actually take a position--he says he understands.
If he had said he thinks the decision to cut top athletes who are "boring" is justifiable--he would be wrong. If Fitch is elite, which Florian seems to admit, he should not be cut--nor should any other elite athlete--boring or not.
What is going on in recent weeks makes a total mockery of the concept of sport--and it needs to be said by more.
