Fox offers UFC 200 million for broadcasting rights

MMALOGIC -
StrikingMMA - I think they go back to SpikeTV again. Things were so much simpler then.

Spike was paying the ufc 35m/yr.

ufc just declined 200m/yr.

spike ain’t happening.

I was joking. I know Spike isn’t in the running.

SlickRick01 -

Ultimate swerve would be Disney deciding to buy at least part of UFC, if not majority share.

Then it would become the women's fighting championship

Erik Apple - remember my thread about the Ferrite's buying it back for a billion?

Yep.

This guy knows.

Look at what the Ferttitas did with Xyience.

They subbed WME/Endeavour the same way.

I would be the happiest of anyone on here if they did but I don't see it ever being sold as low as $1 bil.  I doubt WME sells it at any point, they'll just go public.

The Fertittas run this scheme all the time.

They make something popular and show it makes a profit. Which it does but they load it up with debt too. However, they show that the profit will eventually pay off the debt.

Then they use the debt they racked up to solidify some other part of their empire. Some sucker then comes along and buys the brand thinking they have a winner and the Fertittas walk with all the profit.

The new owner, can make a profit too but soon realizes that he company was propped up in places they didn't expect so the amount f profit is faaar less then they thought.

Soon it falls apart and the Fertittas buy it back when it goes into backruptcy or at the loss of the new owner.

1) Xyience. 2) Station Casinos 3) etc.

It's not crime. Everyone knows what is going on, but people still buy into it. Maybe WME/Endeavour goes public but by the the rats will start running trying to get whatever they can out of it and cut their losses. Sure the public will buy shares etc but the shares won't be what they paid into it. The losses will be there and wow, suddenly there are the Fertittas buying those public shares until guess who has a majority stake?

It won't happen overnight but make no mistake about it. The Fertittas have never sold anything and bough tit back at it's sale value.

^ if ur willing to invest 60b, 300m isn’t that much.

the question is can they monetize the ufc... with the rsns and ott service it’s hard to say no.

The second question now is who can best monetize the ufc because that’s who’ll likely have the best bid...

hard to say it’s not espn after the acquisition and ott plans... tnt would also be up there.

foxs motivation now is more about what will help sell the remaining properties (big fox, fs1, fs2, Fox News)

they couldn’t sell these to espn/Disney because of antitrust.  They will however be looking for another suitor for these assets.

Wasn’t Fox planning to keep their sports and news division’s and have that be their focus? I wasn’t under the impression that those things would be for sale period.

If they were serious they would keep the rsns.

if at&t turner merger goes through the most likely candidate to purchase remaining fox assets would be at&t.

fox is selling its assets because they don’t believe they can compete... with only a few assets left they really won’t be able to compete.

the only reason they aren’t selling fox, fs1 etc to Disney is potential antitrust issues

Fox is really selling their radio assets? I get the antitrust thing, and that there are very specific laws that would prevent one conglomerate from owning both Fox and ABC, and I’m aware NatGeo is also for sale right now, but I’ve not heard a peep about Fox’s radio networks (unless you meant something else by “rsns”), and nothing showed up in a Google News search. You for sure on that?

Not to mention how the UFC was acquired in the first place.

Looking like the Disney purchase of Fox regionals, etc could go through within the next 3 weeks.

Huge viewership number for Lomachenko-Rigondeaux last night.

..

fertitta’s ran the casinos into huge debt, let it go BK, and then bought their own debt for like 15cents on the dollar. genius

Remember when there was all that talk of the Fertitta's taking a lesser deal bc they felt WME was the best fit for the future of the sport? Maybe that meant- best chance of us buying this shit back in a few years after we get NFL in Vegas

AnotherDecision -

not surprising, if i were fox i woulnt pay for the shit cards theyve been surving up for the past 3 years

I've enjoyed quite a few cards in the last few years.

So has anyone else made an offer or is the UFC just sitting with its dick in its hand after turning down 200 million?

FOXSPORTS has a ton of UFC programming, that would be a lot to replace. They are doing cross promotion and lead ins from other popular sports so UFC has its place in their optimum mix. More valuable to them than anyone else.

MMA is cutting edge, its still cool as the new evolving growing sport.

still growing WORLDWIDE, lots of potential for growth still and even in the main US market.

What about TV deals within other markets in other countries?

The ESPN purchase of FOX regional networks should be announced today.

The UFC has been turd since the sale.

You’re high. This shit has fallen off big time. I work for a cable company… you don’t even hear a peep for 90% of cards… the only cards pulling anything have Conor or GSP on them. The rest? you could drop a pin… nothing.

who's gonna pay the 2 billion debt?

Well FOX just got sold to Disney for 52 billion. Good or bad for UFC?

^ No way to know for sure yet but I still stand by my prediction that their aggregate new domestic deal(s) will be around $350 million, which will be uncharted territory for a combat sports entity.
