Frank wants to go down in history like Muhammed Ali as the greatest. At the time not many people appreciated Ali's arrogant and pompous smalk talk and attitude.
He is hailed as a legend now and forever. Shamrock probably looks up to Ali and is following suit.
He fucked up against Renzo but he was winning and those who watch the fight with an open mind and no bias against Frank will see that.
Renzo didnt land a freaking punch for goodness sake,he just took Frank down and held him. This isnt wrestling ladies and gents its mixed martial arts!
Frank wont make that mistake again and he wil go on to beat Baroni and hopefully carry on his legacy of going down in history as the greatest.
Depending on the judge either fighter could have been winning the decision.
On top = win means Renzo
keeping busy trying to finish means Frank
It was close either way.. Renzo shamelessly did a lay and pray but Frank got caught in the same position repeatedly.
And as much as you want to deride Renzo for riding the clock.. it's not as bad as illegal knees to the head ending the fight (tho I don't believe they were intentional to the head)..

Dont even care who was winning, wreckless disregard for sanctioned rules should = ban. No legend to the title, he should become just a forgetten asshole, or just as an asshole.
Hmmm, let see, Frank consistently tried to bridge off of the cage to reverse the position. If you have ever rolled w/ someone and run into the wall, you can help me testify that pushing off the wall is like bridging w/ nitrous in your tanks. Renzo was maintaining position and trying to control an extremely explosive Frank (yes I did give Frank a compliment.
Pray tell how Renzo is to attempt a sub or strikes when Frank is bucking off of the wall?
All the more reason not to progress into the mount. I will give it to Frank: he was the first to show the cage wall could be a weapon to the guy on bottom and not just a hinderance. He showed this in his fight with Tito when he kept spinning off of the wall to redirect Tito to the center. If Renzo knows this, why would he risk the position?
From what I know of Renzo (I have only met him once) he would not run from trouble but he is a smart fighter. He worked the far side armbar in the first round, he was probably working more of the same (like a Kimura or Americana) in the second
Renzo won the first round and was winning the second. IMO, Herb "early stop" Dean saved Frank's ass by standing it up. If you believe otherwise you don't know the fight game. I for one was surprised at how easily Renzo took Frank down. I thought he was going to have a hard time getting him down. I was very disappointed in the end of the fight and especially the way Frank acted. He's been around the fight game a long time, he knows the rules. He was a prick. I still hope he knocks out Baroni.
"The same people praising Renzo for "tooling" Frank by laying on him are the same people who call Koscheck a blanket."
Yup. I hope from now on everyone applies this opinion to every fighter who gets side mount (or even mount, or guard) and then lays there for 10 minutes.
The only way you can see that Renzo was dominating are:
1) You are a Gracie (or Renzo) fan
2) You don't like Frank Shamrock
3) A combination of 1 and 2
Renzo was probably ahead on points as US MMA scores takedowns heavily, and the shots Frank landed while standing were good, but not great.
