Freddie Roach "Strength trainers are bullsh*t" talks Pacquiao vs. Marquez 4
Boxing has always seemed to have a non-too-favorable view of strength training it seems
Freddie is too fucking cool. Love the guy. Holyfield was a pioneer with regards to breaking from the traditional boxing training regimen, and it has opened up a new way of thinking for many boxers today, but Freddie is an old school mofo!
S&C trainers are mostly bullshit, some of the workouts I see them give fighters are ridiculously stupid.

there like Greg Jackson Gameplans... artificcially made more complicated to increase there perceived value so they keep getting paid.
COnsultants do the same shit. They purposely make things more complicated than they are so they can charge more and so the client can feel like they would be missing some secret ingredient if they dont continue to pay.
Some are but in MMA you need to be work outs to build strength else you're going to get beat on the ground when skill levels are similar. When skills similar and one guys more explosive faster And stronger he usually wins. Maybe I'm mixing up strength and condition with kooky guys in garages but idk.
Is it just me, or does he sound like his condition is deteriorating?

You need to be working out *

Exactly this, vtfu.
Simple compound lifts are all you need, some of the things I see just leave me perplexed.
wtf is Roach on? Compound lifts, namely the deadlift, should be the bulk of a fighter's S&C work, along with metcon work.
This is what GSP said.
Hmmm

Yeah WTF is he on?
Who does he think he is, talking about how fighters should train. It's like he thinks he is a legendary boxing trainer or somethi... Oh yeah.
But Pacquiao is motivated and does his own program. And he has a s&c coach that stretches him and runs with him as well, for this fight, and in the past.
Some fighters don't have that motivation. Some fighters are also in higher weight classes and need to maintain size as well as athletecism. Some fighters need to lose weight. Etc etc.
He's just talking shit because of all the drug accusations. As an S&C coach for fighters i have never recommended steroids, and saying that there would be no steroids without s&c coaches is plainly untrue.
I don't think every fighter needs an s&c coach, but a good one could help any fighter. I'll chalk this comment up to the ramblings of someone who has athletes accused of drug use and is looking for a scapegoat.
"Hahah - Freddie is having issues with Alex Ariza. You guys don't obviously follow boxing."
yeah.
Been going on for the last 2 fights. Not sure why Manny still keeps Ariza around anymore.
Also, Ariza used to work for Angel Hernandez, Marquez's trainer and has been telling the media that Hernandez is using legit methods. lol
It's not vullshit, but technique is far more important in a game of hands than mma. Not really a valid argument.
ttt
