The UFC has reportedly made plans for yet another card in Brazil, this time in Brasilia, the nation's capital. Brazilian magazine Tatame originally reported the story, although it's not yet been confirmed. It should be noted that in a recent interview with our own Steph Daniels, UFC commentator Jon Anik made reference to this rumored event with the date included.
There are two separate reasons of importance for the Wednesday, September 4th date:
1.) It is on Independence Day week in Brazil. The national holiday is celebrated on September 7th, so the timing and location of this show is likely related to this.
2.) The Ultimate Fighter 18 premieres on the same night. During the Spike TV era, the UFC would frequently hold live events on the channel to serve as a lead-in to the latest season of TUF. The last time they did this was season 12, but with the UFC designating Wednesday as their flagship day for FS1 content, it looks like they'll be returning to the old format of a live fight card before a TUF premiere.
This would be the UFC's 5th event in Brazil this year and 9th overall since their return to the country in August 2011. It also comes 4 days after UFC 164 in Milwaukee.
UFC has alot of events to build in a short time.
They have Fox 8 July 27th
They need to fill out 163 Aug 3
Need to build FS1 Debut Aug 17th
Need to build 164 Aug 31st
Need to build FS1 event Sept 4th
5 events in a very short time, 2 PPV, a Fox show, big FS1 debut and a big FS1 TUF 18 lead in.
How are they gonna make all these cards big?
Wouldn't surprise me if they use a lot of the fighters from TUF Brazil 2 on at least one of those Brazilian cards, probably the undercards in loser-leaves-town type matches.
filling out the cards is no problem... joe silva has a roster where he can just throw darts to create great match ups.
main events and co main events are the problem. ppv and fs1 debut more so than the general free fight nights.
with Jones out who's gonna co main the fs1 debut?
Guys like wand, rich franklin, bisping, chael, etc... can main event the general free fight night cards and the tuf lead in. but you need something special for the fs1 debut.
Chael vs Wand should main event the tuf lead in.
GSP vs Hendricks will do Milwakee (or bendo vs _______).
Zuffa doesnt have a headliner for the fs1 debut. you cant use gsp because he's too big on ppv... you cant do bendo because he's probably not a big enough draw yet and you wanna see what he can pull on ppv after a few stints on big fox.
Jones was the perfect headliner for fs1. big enough draw to get people to fs1 but not too big to destroy your ppv cash cow.
The only slot the UFC is struggling with right now is the main event for the fs1 debut. they got tons of fights for every other slot.

The golden egg Honda is logical.
