The main problem was that for a supposedly humorous article it was severely lacking in the funny. No mention of grunting, long meaningful hugs after the fight, or the fanbase's obsession with weigh-in photos.
The writing itself was more of a blog than an article and I suspect this magazine has a lot of escort ads in back.
I'm not sure what the point of her article was, other than to troll up outraged responses. In and of itself that could force people to question if maybe they shouldn't be homophobic if they enjoy something that appears to most to be homoerotic. However, she clearly used homophobia to attempt to accomplish this. I don't think you can "tear down the master's house with the master's tools" and I think the article did nothing to effectively expose the false dichotomy between masculinity and any physical contact or proximity between men.
The article essentially prioritized heterosexual attraction over all other pursuits in life and required that all activity by heterosexual men be evaluated only by reference to its ability to satisfy their female heterosexual counterparts.
It could have been a thoughtful article but wasn't, and it certainly wasn't funny.
