If you took a regular pair of gi pants and cut them off to make them shorts would it be legal to compete in them?

Meh cool in theory but doesn't make much sense to me. Would rather either roll in my gi or do no-gi and wear my shorts 
can't remember the make but look exactly the same as a pair I bought a long time ago - the idea being you'd get more traction/less slippage when applying arm bars etc because of the gi material

It's an interesting choice to select a name/acronym that stands for two things you would never, ever want to happen in any context where you would be wearing the product.
Whether training or competing, the last thing I want is to kill anybody or get myself killed. Lol.
