I read this article in the paper today. Pissed me off.
Despite suffering a broken nose and tailbone, Norma Chantler says she'd do it again. The 67-year-old woman was beaten when she came to the aid of her 68-year-old husband Jim, who had himself come to the aid of a woman he believed was in danger.
The Good Samaritans were driving their six-year-old granddaughter Sadie home from a family reunion near the Metropolitan campus of Windsor Regional Hospital about 10 p.m. Sunday when they saw a man who appeared to be trying to take a woman's purse.
Jim yelled at the man to leave the woman alone and the Chantlers went for help at a hospital parking kiosk that turned out to be unoccupied.
"She got away and I thought she was running to safety but he was chasing her," said Norma.
The Chantlers returned to the couple and Jim asked the woman if she was OK when the male kicked the couple's car, denting the fender and frightening Sadie.
Jim got out of his car and approached the suspect, who punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
While Jim was on the ground the suspect began kicking him and Norma got out of the car.
"He hit me in the nose and forehead. He hit me with such force that the blood splattered all over."
The man told Norma to mind her own business.
"I told him I was minding my own business because I said the welfare of that young woman was my business," said Norma..
The young woman came to see if the Chantlers needed help and she told them the assailant was an ex-boyfriend but she refused to divulge his identity.
"I would do it again," she said.
"People do not have the right to abuse other people. We can't turn our backs on people in trouble."
The suspect is described as a white male, 17 to 18 years of age, five feet, eight inches tall with a thin build, thin face and dark hair.
He was wearing a black tuque pulled over his ears, a black T-shirt with AFI written in red and the words "I remain under a devilish figure" written on it.
The female was 16 to 17 years of age with a slim build, light brown hair pinned back and a stud in her nose.
