Yeah headbutts eliminate some positions where one guy can stall, standing and on the feet. I know we’ll never get them back but I wish MMA would.
Can we stop saying “grapplers” and start saying “BJJ nerds”? Wrestlers don’t do that shit.
I do however, refer to fighting, grappling and most forms of physical combat as simply “wrasslin” lol.
I’ve seen wrestlers do this. Catch hipsters like it too…
The worst of the worst BJJ guys are the most common offenders though. I blame fight to win and all these retarded promotions convincing people winning a blue belt match makes them cool. And Joe Rogan for making people think every BJJ blue belt could fuck people up. These attendance based belts completely fucking ruined BJJ.
I don’t even say I teach BJJ anymore. I either just say JJ or grappling. I don’t want the overhead of being associated with what BJJ has become a lot of places
You won’t believe how many grappling fights I’ve had! Jokes aside, I consider “grappling” starting from the feet with no butt sitting and no pajamas. Basically your jake shields American jiu jitsu if I had to categorize it. A lot of wrestling in it.
Keenan has started using that term as well at legion.
I like it. BJJ means so many different things anyway. Fadda and Carlson Sr have a completely different style than Helio and Rener side. Grappling is grappling. I think if we’ve learned anything from the rise in Soviet country grapplers over the history of MMA from Khabib to Feyodor it’s that drawing lines around “that’s wrestling, not BJJ” ect is holding the US back
Crab, can I ask, who Ur toughest fight… I mean match was against,
Comp wise, best guy people would know was probably Jay Rod. It was before he was very good though. He didn’t know leg locks at all I don’t think lol.
Jay Rod is soo good now, I always keep up to date with the B Team and obviously apart from the other standouts , J Rod is extremely good and only getting better
I think he’ll surpass his bro v v soon
Yeah I rolled with him like 3 years ago at a tournament in Philly. Even then his passing was rudimentary but he was so aggressive and good at forcing scrambles he would just outwork guys and beat guys who were better than him.
I trained with him at b team as well, he had developed a sick darce and good RNCs by then. He was still green in legs and passing but in the last year or so he’s improved both of those a lot
Also I will note to the thread, just rolling in the gym with Nicky Rod feels more like a fight than any of my MMA or kickboxing fights lol.
As far as best person I’ve trained with, it’s Nicky Ryan first, Craig second. Nicky is truly a god of BJJ.
He may. The sense I got from them though was Nicky loves grappling more than Jay does. Like he finds it more intrinsically interesting onsolve problems in.
lol.
The idea of you having to then look it up to find out if Gordon actually got into some kind of fight is funny.
Like, did he transition to MMA secretly and make his pro debut in LFA? Did he fight some guy in a Hooters parking lot?
They do seem to roll very hard even in training, and u even said it from first hand experience…
V cool.
Whats the deal with Victor Hugo, is he doing ADCC or The Craig Jones Invitational?
The line between fight and grappling gets blurry when you get guys hitting violent snaps, aggressively hand fighting and shoulder posting, heads colliding as people battle for head position, ect.
I love it though. It’s good hard training, and those guys aren’t dicks or trying to injury you.
I think CJI. He got an invite but traded it in to have a shot at more money.
Great, should be a interesting bracket for him, v competitive
I heard Xande comment on him specifically, said he personally doesn’t like leaving ADCC for CJI but says he understands Victor doing I and he might have done the same at that age.
Xande had a good take on the cji mess and reddit is talking mad shit about him now.
Ohhh, I’m gonna check that out
