Gunnar Nelson to appeal loss due to eye pokes

Wow. Makes Jon Jones look good.

Should have appealed to the ref, during the fight IMO.

Wow, those eye pokes were egregious. It was like a flurry of eye pokes. The last one's were especially bad, because they looked very intentional. Hopefully Gunnar gets this overturned. I'll cheer for Ponzi's next opponent.

Don J - It will most likely not change. While the replays show that there was an eye poke, Gunnar was the one that kept pressing forward even after the poke that HE says blurred his vision.

I get it, looking back in hindsight he says he SHOULD have said something for the fight to be paused. But he didnt because he thought he had Ponzi on the run. Had he go the W he wouldnt have complained about the eye poke.

The fact remains that he kept pressing forward even AFTER the eye poke and was caught with his hands low and chin up.

The ref is the one who is supposed to intervene when fighters are fouled, if a fighter risks catching the attention of a referee to pause the fight he risks getting blasted on because the ref tells them to "protect yourself at all times". So you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't unfortunately, but because it was negligence by the ref it could support the appeal and overturn the fight, though doubtful anything will come from it.

Fan of both but I feel like ponzi needs to fight a fresh out of retirement rumble Johnson next ...openweight!

Never seen a one-two with eye pokes. That third one was particularly bad.

holy eye pokes batman

It's not his job to make his opponent not commit flagrant fouls.

Shows how much you miss at normal speed.  Based on the video - Overturn.

Are we gonna take all of Jon's wins away too? Gotta be a rules change if you want something done about it. Fights over, way way too late now... aint shit gonna happen mr bjj.

1. There was a rule change
2. The fight can certainly be turned over on appeal.

While the eyepokes were bad, nothing will come of this appeal.

An example needs to be made... eye pokes groin strikes and cage grabbing is part of the playbook for some fighters

I'm not a Nelson fan, but that cheating Mexican fuck is going to have his win bonus stripped from him.

Tell yourself whatever you need to stem the tide of tears lil buddy. Your boy didn't kocked crosseyed and goofy.

Mexican?  Ponzi is from Argentina, Donald.

Makes you think the kung fu guys might be on to something with the whole clawing of eyes winning fights thing.

What part of Mexico is that?  Nevermind, I don't care as long as it's behind the wall.  I just hope Gunnar didn't get too much taco sauce in his eyes.
