HELP with Kids and armbars... getting them to tap.

HYG I think that settles it thanks a bunch I'll report back in with the results!

One thing to consider too is that kids are way more flexible than adults, my son is a 4 stripe yellow training 2 years, his arms go way past 90 degrees when extended horozontally, I don't think he would get hurt by any arm bar, he constantly rolls out of even the tightest arm bars. Kids know when to tap, just like we do.

I coach kids classes at Clebers, theirs on average 15-25 kids each class. We usually have 4-5 instructors/coaches in each class, least I've seen any class with is 3.

besides the instructors you need parents that are qualified to help you and be coaches to keep the rug rats from hurting each other.

and no you dont have to pay the experienced parents for coaching, they will gladly help you

12 - do u practice the tap?

just started trying this last time I had them

get them in armbar position with arm at various spotrs and ask if its time to tap

They're kids; Just tell them the next time they fail to tap your going to spank them. End of problem.

^Ha! He's actually almost right. You're not just teaching techniques when teaching kids. You are also teaching behavior skills. One of which is discipline.

Put simply, most kids LOVE to roll. Use it against them to get the needed results. Make "rolling" a privilege, and let them know to respect that privilege. In short, "if you don't tap when you should guys, you don't roll." If you see kids not tapping soon enough, sit them out for a round. While they are sitting out, reinforce to them why they should tap sooner. Safety, respect for your partner, and acknowledgment that position needs to be key to prevent being subbed.

To borrow from John Will and David Meyer, tapping for kids should be like a heat seeking missile. That missile makes mistakes, then has to adjust, mistake, then adjust, mistake then adjust, until "boom" you've done it right. Every tap is an admission of that mistake and willingness to make the necessary adjustment.

u dont do it with every sub tech u teach? 1/4 speed ,make a game out of it.

no I don't should I? I'll try it. I'm still learning how to teach this to kids. I got the position because I am good with kids under 12 or so, they listen to me, and I love jiu jitsu. I'm just a passionate blue belt so I have a lot to learn about passing this stuff on.
