Home mat help?

Simple question is 10' x 10' big enough to spar on? Phone Post

1 on 1 with no takedowns, it can be done.

yeah no takedowns im looking into the dollamur 10 x 10 x 1.25 for on top of my concrete patio. i just have absolutely no imagination and can not picture how large it owuld be and if it is big enough

Do it, you will never regret it. A home gym is the best gift I ever gave myself. 10x10 is very doable if you don't have spaz partners. Phone Post

Take some blue painters tape and mark it off for a visual.

Or tape a 10x10 square on the mats at your school, then spar inside the square. This will give you a feel for the space.

that is a great idea. Or just mark it off on the patio and stand inside the area will give you a good idea

I've only got 8'x8' and we make it work for specific positional sparring. Phone Post

A 10 x 10 will look larger pnce the mats are laying down. A tape measuer doesn't give the right perspective; it will seem smaller. IF you can do a 12 x 12 that would be substantially bigger, The extra 1 foot periminter width makes quite a difference and will allow for take downs. Use caution of course. A 10 x 10 will definately be enough room to spar. You will have to move to the center here and there, but no different than you do during a class sparring session at your school.

Yeah I was thinking about doing 12 x 12 but the mats come in either 4 x 6 or 5 x 10 with the 12 x 12 it would be 6 total mats and only 2 for 10 x 10 with the connecting tape and stuff I figured 2 mats would be easier. Honestly I don't know how well the taping works I've never had home mats Phone Post

I have fold out velcro mats for the home and puzzle mats - I have been on the dollamur mats and I believe they are the best surface of all - no hype when the people say that - but the three different experiences I had on those mats were at people's personal training facilities, and in all instances the mats came apart with the tape they used (available through the mat supplier) it seemed to be a constant annoyance. Maybe someone here has a solution for this problem. If you were to go with those mats and wanted to leave them in place for an extended peiod of time, you might consider using "Gorilla" brand black duct tape. This stuff is truly thicker and with greater adhesive properties than any regular grey duct tape I have seen, but I would be cautious; I can imagine a thin coating of the dollamur mats being peeled right off if you were remove the "Gorilla" tape. Best of luck and you will not regret purchasing mats.

If your game is tight enough, you can get by using a MUCH smaller mat.

My grappling area consists of a single piece of puzzle mat, 'cause I don't mess around.

Yeah since it is outside I can't leave them down I have to pull them up after each use. I'd love to hear some alternatives to this soundingly useless tape Phone Post

10 x 10 is usually good enough for sparring starting from the knees so long as you do go crazy Phone Post

we put dn 2 5x6 folding mats ,works well

I think dollamur sells a 10x10 setup with Velcro now, right? Phone Post
