I have never been so disappointed in my fellow MMA fan.
Carlos Condit put on a performance for the ages last night and executed a near perfect gameplan and beat Diaz through striking and octagon control. Diaz's aggression should not be misconstrued as octagon control, because he clearly had NO idea how to control the octagon.
The on-running joke that Condit was scared to engage is an abominable statement. The mental strength Condit displayed was exceptional and far and beyond anything Diaz was capable of mustering last night. "lolomgwtfHOW?" I hear a lot of Diaz fans ask.
By not falling into the trap that Diaz was setting for him. Diaz has made a living by backing people against the cage / ring and unleashing hell on their bodies. Condit was having absolutely none of that.
What many people call "running" was actually extremely effective OCTAGON CONTROL.
Every time Diaz tried backing Condit against the cage, Condit would be out of there before Diaz had a chance to finish his combination of strikes. And where did he go? BACK TO THE CENTER OF THE RING, where CONDIT wanted the fight. This happened for 25 minutes and Diaz had absolutely ZERO answer for it except for trying to talk shit and getting punched in the face because of it.
The athlete who is keeping range and NEVER LETTING HIS OPPONENT CHOOSE WHERE THE FIGHT GOES is the one awarded points for octagon control, not the athlete that continually tries the same thing over and over and over and over and over with absolutely no success.
Diaz needs to evolve in order to keep competing in this sport. If he wants to box dudes up while they stand still, I'm sure Cesar would be happy to throw on some pads and you guys can cough up 55$ for it.
PS. before anyone says a thing about me being a Condit lover, you need to know this: I throw homerun parlay bets on every MMA event. Something like 50$ to win 3000$+ just for shits and giggles.
Last night I had a parlay of Herman by sub, Koscheck by dec, Werdum by dec and DIAZ BY DECISION. I knew that after the end of round 4 my homerun parlay was finished. Because Diaz had clearly lost the fight.
This is a sport, regardless of how much whining and complaining you do that these athletes aren't standing and throwing hooks, and that wont fucking change.
Condit went in there and showed his technical mastery of the stand up game over someone who is a rather great striker and should be celebrated as such.
MaliceX -Stuckey - Never tried to make a basket? What a terrible analogy. Condit was quite successful in hitting Nick in the face, and hugely successful with his kicks.
Sorry, just because you didn't get the brawl you wanted, doesn't mean that Condit wasn't scoring points and winning the fight.
Backing up and running is stalling...I think warnings should be given and pts deducted for it. I
Warnings should be given if you aren't providing any offense in return. Condit was. You are really just trying to punish him for not fighting Diaz's fight.
thirdleg -GageIsLegend - I think all fighters should come out to the center swing like drunk men until someone gets ko'ed. Best sport ever.
This seems to be the entire argument made by Diaz huggers.
no but you cant blame anyone no matter who they are a fan of to
expect a guy like Carlos Condit who has 28 wins 26 of them finishes by either submission or knockout
and only 2 of the wins by decision
to go for the knockout or submission as much as possible in a 5 round title fight (25 minutes worth of "fighting")

Thread over.
dudefromisrael - Diaz got hit more. If anything, Condit scored more "baskets".
But this is supposed to be the ultimate FIGHTING championship, not the ultimate point scoring with non-effective strikes championship.
Fighters are supposed to be scored for "effective striking". What was effective about 80% of Condit's strikes? Nothing! They didn't stop Nick from going forward or Carlos from having to keep moving away so they had no postive effect. He even had head kicks that looked flashy but didn't even move Nick's feet one bit. Uneffective. Shouldn't have been given credit for.
Nick was able to move his opponent backwads without even hitting him. That's some bad ass martial arts talent, man! Legendary Chi/Ki master stuff!
To rsbones:
Condit's might have not been effective (whatever), but he was sure as hell more effective than Diaz.
Fighting =/= Fighting to your opponent's strength. It's better to win by a inch than to lose by a landslide, but people have a tough time getting that. You play to your comparative strengths
All of a sudden everyone loves Jackson and his boring game plans . it wasn't long ago all you fags were bashing him. the Diaz hate is unbelievable

how do you figure that? nick had carlos backing away from him without even having to swing at him. maybe they should have a scoring category for effective walking!

Oh people "get it", they just don't agree with it. We are men. We prefer to go out in a blaze of glory and show the world we are tough than to prance around and win on points like it's some sort of point based martial arts tournament.

lol
thirdleg - rsbones, stop posting. You sound ignorant.
I'm sorry that you are not impressed by my performance.
thirdleg - If that professional fighter is saying the same type of nonsense as is routinely posted here, then YES.
Well then I guess here is a list for you... What do they know about MMA anyway.

All of this!!!
And I had Diaz by sub lose me my parlay.
Robert P Hansson - OP is missing the big picture.
UFC is a business and it depends on the fans to provide funds to keep the business alive and flourishing. Fighting with an intent to finish your opponent makes for an entertaining fight and keeps fans happy and brings in more fans.
Condit's performance did not fulfill that absolutely necessary objective.
Sure, if fighting was in a complete vacuum and the only thing that mattered was who got the W, then Condit admirably etched out the W with his strategy. However, the UFC is not in a vacuum and depends on providing solid entertainment and living up to expectations. This fight had a TON of expectations. This one was the MAIN EVENT.
Bottom line, Condit's performance was bad for business and therefore is bad for MMA.
Every major sport is also a business, but there's still tactics in every one of them
The UFC was created to showcase fights between two guys trying to stop the other man. Sure it has been watered down from the original product and thanks to politics and commissions become a "sporting event" where outcomes are sometimes decided by boxing judges and a boxing oriented judging system. Unfortunately some guys play the point fighting game, not taking chances, securing rounds with meaningless takedowns to win rounds, etc. I didn't see this fight so I can't comment on it, but in fights that go the distance, the man moving backwards isn't going to be getting the nod in my eyes over the chaser if all else is relatively even.
mijo - If you thought Nick won last night. WWE is the place for you. Not MMA! Carlos fought a great fight! And Won!
I don't think Anderson Silva, or Dan Henderson really want to go to the WWE but who knows? Looks like we my lose a lot of really good fighters to the WWE according to your thoughts.
