Today's UFC Lightweight/Featherweight divisions? He's been destroying the competition in Asia, and has wins against Eddie Alvarez, JZ Cavalcante, George Sotiropolous and Joachim Hansen, but those are dated. In his one fight in Strikeforce, he lost to Melendez by decision.
He's 33 and has been stopped 4 times - all by KO. Does anyone want to see him try his hand in the UFC, or are the masses content to see him stay in Asia and compete there?
I've always been a fan of grappling and submission in MMA, and I enjoy watching Aoki fight (in competitive matches).
There was a thread on the UG about the beef between Aoki and Hirota (and a video too).
Link is here: http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/forums/UnderGround/The-Story-Behind-The-Beef-Between-Aoki--Hirota:1590112
I think what set Aoki off in that beef had to do with two things: 1. Hirota beat Aoki's friend, Kitaoka, and gloated about it. 2. Hirota was talking mad shit pre-fight, talking about how he would beat Aoki all the way to his mom's house (or something like that), which is a no-no in Japanese culture.
There might be more to the story, but either way the poor sportsmanship after the submission is not excusable either way you look at it.

He beat Hansen twice, first time w a gogo which was before Nicks on Gomi and he also tapped out Kawajiri, Shaolin who people said would exposeAoki's jits in addition to Marcus Aurelio who peopke said would do the same. He also beat Kikuchi twice at ww, the first time when Kikuchi was 4 fight removed from beating Jake Shields. All are dated yes, but u left out like half his resume.

Absolutely, all those are great wins as well and I wish I hadn't left them out. The win against Kawajiri was awesome...do you think he could implement that type of game in today's UFC?
"The Loge: If he fights smart, think like Maia, he could be top 5 in the UFC in my opinion."
Yes, I was thinking if he could implement his JiuJitsu game into MMA the way Maia does (like a wet blanket), then he definitely could submit guys. The trick is to not be deluded into trying to knock out guys with substantial standup skills.

Yes, one of my favorite moments as an mma fan came when nagashima ktfo'ed aoki in the mma round of a special rules match. Its actually my profile pic for this very forum. I went fuckin nuts when that happened. That fight also got me a bazzie! VU fire fly. Came into this thread to post about this.
DontLeaveItToTheJudges - I'd love to see him get KTFO by any UFC fighter, he's a scumbag imo
agreed, its strange because I watched him for the first time at Pride Shockwave 06 against Hellboy and they had this nice little montage of him almost becoming a cop and how much his father means to him ...after the win he's shown carrying his trophy backstage in tears ...and I'm thinking to myself this guy has the passion and seems to be a good guy.
Then his true colors came out against Hirota.
One of the greatest things to happen against Aoki was when he got KTFO in that mixed rules bout against Nagashima.
Round 1: Kickboxing Rules - Aoki runs around avoiding contact trying to coast to the next round that would be MMA Rules.
Round 2: MMA Rules - right away shoots in for the takedown and gets blasted in the face with a flying knee! Oh man I was so happy!
It's called Karma Shinya~
Omg I forgot that! I remember watching it with my friend now, it was pathetic how he ran around, he was grabbing the ropes like a wwe guy lol
