How much do you pay to train?

Just curious the monthly rate/ contract most train under.

No real contract at all but I pay for me, my wife, and one of my kids right now. In 2019/2020 I was paying for me, my wife, and 3-4 kids training.

My personal dues are not bad for what people say they pay in socal and my additional add-ons are pretty low but it adds up to a couple Bennies overall. Still not really bad though compared to what others pay and I can afford it

$199/unlimited

Most places here are from $150 to $250/month.

These threads inevitably lead to people saying “That’s too much” without having any idea of what the costs are in a particular area.  It’s like claiming some home in Malibu is overpriced when you live in some shack in Mississippi and know nothing of real estate.

Terrible comparison.

* On a SideNote:  Most BJJ schools are overpriced, but if people are willing to pay for a "mystical" art more power to them.

Disagree, great comparison.

When I started my academy in 2012, I was a purple belt and I charged $79 per month. A couple of years later, I raised it to $99 per month.

Now, as a black belt, I charge $139 a month…all of my old students are grandfathered into whatever rate they signed up with.

I also give a discounted rate for the college kids (I live in a college town)- $79…which I will prob. raise next year- I just felt bad for them during Covid.

$150/month yearly contract.

Started at $60/month a few years ago. I guess if they can get away with charging it and there’s a market so be it. But I personally know a lot of people who could have truly benefited from BJJ in their lives but have not been able to due to financial constraints.

This topic is what Judo has done right and BJJ has done wrong in my opinion. I guess I blame Rorion.

Youre either "screwing" your students with money or space. It’s a cost either way, so what’s the difference?

155/month for 2x a week. 215 is the price for unlimited. In Boston

The low prices with judo are definitely whats right with that martial art…but its almost always taught out of a community center with maybe 3  adult offered the whole week. Bjj will typically have at least 2 a day with more time options.

When I was in college we had one of the best judo university teams in the area and the fees were $25 bucks for a semester lol. Too bad I was a lazy shit and only attended a few I jumped back into Judo after graduating and back 5x that amount for a month now.

I haven't been on the mats since last Feb but, assuming my rate is still locked in, it's $125/month for my son and I. Grandfathered into an older rate

SoCal, $135 unlimited

SoCal, $135 unlimited

forgot to say no contract

$99 a month for unlimited, and there are every day–morning, noon and night. Since the pandemic hit I’ve only gone about 6 weeks out of the last year, but I’ve kept paying my dues.

I would love to see some of these facilities, amenities and locations of these really cheap schools. Do you have showers, lockers, nice mats etc? How big is your mat space? How many a day are offered and how many can you attend? Some of these numbers i see seem ridiculous.

The mats are great, on a raised platform and meticulously cared for. I’m not good with dimensions, but during open mat days there are probably a few dozen people rolling. Separate locker rooms for men and women. And out back there’s an outdoor kickboxing setup (bags and whatnot).

One fee, unlimited daily, although COVID has shut down the Saturday and the Sunday open mat. I used to go to the 6am there are 10:30am and 6pm There are also fighter-only sessions around noon or so. Some Bellator heavyweight is in that one, mixing it up with other dudes.
