How the UFC paid me

No one is interested in the facts.

b) If the numbers you are reporting are true why didn't Lorenzo just say, "Oh those $6k numbers are just a base. Our guys are making a minimum of X and I can prove it." He would have ended all conversations on the subject and I don't think ESPN would have even aired the special...

Because its nobody else's fucking business what Zuffa pays fighters! No one is twisting anyones arm to fight. If fighters think the pay is to low for what they do then find another career, find someone who will pay more, or start your own MMA org and show everyone how its done.

It's not like people are being forced to work in 19th century sweat shops. This fucking entitlement mentality is bullshit. The job pays what it pays if you want to be a fucking fighter and take your shot at the big time those are the terms go for it and don't bitch because there is no other opportunities that are better. That's what is available take it or leave it.

The UFC needs to push this OP as a legit news story to counter act the dangerously biased piece done by ESPN.

Oh and lol at shamrock being the only named guy in their story... Phone Post

What type of business did you run?

Nice post

Haulport - Sean I respect you but:

a) Anything you say in regards to Zuffa is tainted because you want to be employed by them in the future.

b) If the numbers you are reporting are true why didn't Lorenzo just say, "Oh those $6k numbers are just a base. Our guys are making a minimum of X and I can prove it." He would have ended all conversations on the subject and I don't think ESPN would have even aired the special...

Fuck you must be hard to please mate. An honest opinion from a person who has been directly involved with the whole situation (being pay) and you're discrediting it? Phone Post

So true. Phone Post

Great post. Interesting perspective. Phone Post

As far as Sean's former business goes, I think if you have paid attention to his past posts and posts of others that actually know him.....he apparently ran a successful recycling business with a partner(?) but I think went through a divorce and maybe had some conflict with said partner and sold his share which I think is what enabled him to begin training.

I could be wrong but I think it's something along those lines

I can get behind everything you said except for them paying people to talk shit - that gets under my skin.

I realize this is first and foremost entertainment, then sport, but I watch for the fighting, not the act if men acting like children. I can't stand this twitter bonus and " paid me for how I 'hyped' the fight" shit.

Thanks for the insite. Phone Post

Sean is cool. Would be cooler if his name was Phil, though. I love the name Phil. Phone Post

That was a great post bro. Very insightful Phone Post

the nba season is way more grueling then yall give it credit for

baseball/footbal you take a break every 5secs

but of course nothing is more punishing then beating each other up daily in training

Love to finally see some facts from a  fighter... good stuff.

Sean McCorkle - Part of the solution to the entire issue would be fighters fighting more often. I realize that time is needed between fights for a lot of the headlining guys in order to market and promote the fight, but under card and lower level guys could fight 5-6 times a year easily barring major injury. The beatings you take in the gym on a weekly basis are often times as bad or worse than what you endure during a fight. NFL players play once a week every week for 4-6 months straight. NBA players play 3x a week for 6 months straight.

Exactly! One of the ways Pride built stars was to have them fight often. Like you said, lower tier guys could fight more often, I mean that's what they usually did before making it to the UFC. 10-20K a fight is not much if it's twice a year, but 4-5-6 times, plus the potential to market yourself and find other sponsors, etc. and it becomes viable.

Good point. Fighting more often creates visibility and gives you the chance to become a popular fighter just by being seen a ton.

pidgey - what kind of business did you run?<br><br>130 employers are a lot <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

I think he had 130 runners! bahahahah!! Lol

McCorkle, I remember on the MMA hour you mentioned how Monte was being able to get you similar pay to what you received in the UFC in the smaller shows. Don't you see a problem with that?

I mean imagine if a NHL player was able to go play some games in Cornwall Ontario and make the same as he was in the NHL, while the NHL is making so much off ticket sales/television?

Let's remember, you were the co-main event for a UFC card.. It's not like you were on the prelims for all those fights.

I liked most of your post, but disagreed about the union. Look at how much the major sports salaries jumped once they got unionized. That said, I agree with your point about how until the UFC gets like the NFL there isn't much point in discussing that.

The UFC isn't solidified like the major sports, one death in the cage could have a major effect. Also they're flying high now, but so has the WWE on numerous occasions only to have significant lows as well. Bellator has just started to get going, a lot will depend on how they do. They have a TV Network and a major corporation behind them, if they fail as well then I doubt no other company in the USA will have a chance for a while.
